Good mate, keep on doing it 👍
Boss man you are a good driver, don't know how long you been driving but I'm 28 yrs in. Number 1 I don't use my Jake brakes period unless I'm on a steep down grade. Anyone that says Jakes are not hard on the valve train being on all the time doesn't no what there talking about .Any old school trucker or mechanic will tell you this.Number 2,I never sit at any light with my truck in gear on the clutch,once I've shifted down to a safe speed to use my brakes I throw it in neutral. I've ran a cheap clutch 13 yrs pulling 44-48k payload every trip out until the throw out bearing gave way. Just a little advice from a mid 90s old school O/O that believes in making his equipment last as long as possible. Keep up the good work and stay safe out here.
@presy_jay
Ай бұрын
Appreciate the feedback. However, putting yourself truck in neutral and coming to a stop is one of the worst things you can do. You reduce your stopping power. You're then solely relying on and abusing your service brakes. The truck will stop a lot quicker in gear. As for my valve train, I get my overhead ran once annually. The last one was done in December. Adjusted with no issues whatsoever. Every driver or O/O have their own driving technique. My truck is rarely in the shop. I fix a lot of things myself. The reason why most guys turn the turn the jake brake off is because they don't know how to shift with it on. That's when it's hard on the valves. I can upshift and downshift every single gear with the jake brake on without it making a single sound. Be safe on the road. God bless 🫡
Excellent driving

I love all of these, and think about “driving” every day. I drive a Sprinter in DFW 6 days a week and it’s nuts…evergrowing, with crazy drivers…just bad drivers..,but the love playing the game…getting around all of the construction, accidents, calling it when I know someone coming around me is going to be texting with two thumbs or is going to cross three lanes with no signal, or they are wanting to brake check me… It’s fun sometimes, Just knowing how to get around everything, knowing who you is going to cause a problem and avoiding it, while being courteous and not losing my cool. Anyway, I would love to really drive..this video really brings it out..I have great friends that outside of Nashville an hour or so and the entire area out there is gorgeous. I need to start playing the lottery, because I want something like that beautiful truck and roads, mountains, miles, music and yeah….schedules, insurances, and construction, and assholes, and dumbasses…tired back, tired eyes and everything else. I’ll take it all.. Thank You for what you do.

With my 2 years experience and with companies not liking to give out trucks with fresh/new brakes there's been a few times when a hill/last second steep grade grabbed me by the balls and I had to choose between possibly burning out my brakes or preserving the brakes but letting the truck go a much higher speed while in the left lane with flashers on because I just couldn't slow down to the speed limit without burning out the truck's brakes and loosing stopping power all together. Also the trailer's brakes weren't in great shape so I really had my work cut out for me to make it safely down the super steep grade without incident. It was like I was able to "tap" the brakes maybe for a couple of seconds but then I noticed how stopping power began to rapidly disappear as the worn brakes overheated then I had no choice but to let go even if it meant I had to go 80 in a 65 I just had no choice but to let the brakes cool or burn them out. Fortunately enough being a learner and learning the areas better I knew ahead of time when to slow like way down and I've even gotten into a habit of going as much as 20 below the posted speed limit instead of the 10 below as originally taught. When a truck has great brakes and brake drums/disk it's normally not an issue to slow down at anytime but when braking parts are worn even though still in legal spec things can still get dangerous while trying to slow down. All in all I learned how to take better precautions before entering a steep grade BUT there are sometimes no warning till the last second and if your already going too fast even if within legal speed limits even 10 miles below isn't always safe for a particular truck's condition along with many other factors taken into consideration. I love this video as it has helped to "fortify" my current knowledge with how to handle steep grades. Meaning so what if I already knew but I continue to "relearn" even if I don't have to as I don't mind being "reminded" about/how to handle things safely especially considering allot of times there are no second chances to get things done right/safe enough.
@presy_jay
Ай бұрын
Never allow a company to put you in faulty equipment. You not only risk your life, but the lives of others on the road. Just remember, ultimately, you'll be held responsible if the fan hits the ceiling. Also, it sounds to me like you're going down these grades in the wrong gear. If you're doing 80 in a 65, you're in the wrong gear. Just remember, you can never go down too slow. Notice, I'm going down 15-20 miles below the posted speed limit. My weight played a factor, if I was lighter, I'd go a little faster. You've gotta know the truck you're in, and which gear will take you down at a safe speed. Be safe out there. 🫡🫡
@kennethmatthew3453
Ай бұрын
@@presy_jay I wish during training I was told "you can never go down too slow". Usually a trainer's truck are generally in much better condition especially considering "company trainers" are usually given the newest equipment so newer drivers are usually taught in trucks with "better/newer brakes" although not always the case. Either way my trainer's truck had great breaks and always slowed with ease so I had a "false sense of confidence" when it came to steep grades from the very beginning. I learned the hard way "fortunately without incident" it's best to go as slow as needed no matter what. Seeing this video made me feel as if it's okay to "slow down" as much as needed while turning on flashers once below a certain speed limit from the posted limit. These trainers push new drivers to "go hard" but I never went harder then I could handle no matter if it upset my trainers or not and I always slowed down way ahead of time when coming up to severely slowing traffic as I always prioritized safety 1st until I really got used to actually knowing "for sure" how long it took the truck "to stop". I was extremely cautious during my 1st weeks in training and I was confident but scared at the same time although I was passionate about what I was getting into. By my calculations it takes at least 10 years to learn virtually everything about trucking "sometimes longer" and I'm greatly surprised how much I've learned in just 2 years with still so much more to learn. Sure I may be an excellent driver with great instincts on the road but there is just so much more than moving a truck along with many dangers they don't teach you about in trucking school or while in training. I see why training used to last 3-6 months or 3+ months instead of the 2-3 weeks these days. Honestly you don't learn much in just 2-3 weeks or you only learn hints and a few suggestions if that. Nowadays with newer drivers either you catch on quick and adapt even quicker or you drown with the danger of taking someone else down with you. You're thrown into a truck/pool and either you learn to swim or drown via any kind of accident. Even 1st time driving on ice I was solo and had to "learn fast" or get stuck but luckily I'm natural fast learner with trucking in my bloodline but I've seen so many crashed trucks where newbies didn't learn fast enough. Now I'm going to go and continue having wet dreams of someday owning a Kenworth W900 lol... d*ck gets super hard even thinking about going inside one every day for years... they look so good 😍
