    *These floats do what they say they do **enjoyable.fishing** recommend they come on and off easily and can be adjusted in seconds to adjust to the depth of the water you are fishing in. Used these with trout magnet lures and did really well with them in the stream!*

    My technique is slightly different but you do a good job of explaining the method. It can make a massive difference to your results if you can master the technique but it's not for everyone.

    Nice nice... I am using Pinpoint not for 2 years and it has gotten really easy to improve the hooks. I started practicing with already fished hooks that were a little bit dull and got better and better to the point were I started to sharpen brand new hooks.

    Really interested in this as I never sharpen my hooks I’ll be honest. I just check and change rigs. I’ll have to have a go of this. Thanks Nash!!!

    Great and informative video, a lethal sharp hook can be the difference between fish and chips for dinner and no catch with some species. Anyone wanting a really good demonstration on how to shape the bevel should watch around 7:19

    Very well explained and demonstrated. Where I fish The Bottom is Thick with silt Doing a overnighter I've found my hook point eaten away as if It's been dipped in acid. I've tried various makes of hooks The outcome is always the same is that common with a silty bottom. Thanks again for Showing your technique.

    When sharpening a hook, I always seem to shorted the length of the point on my chod straight point hooks. I do get them sharper though. Am I taking away too much material?

  • @Richard0851
    @Richard08516 жыл бұрын

    Having really sharp hooks is all well and good but it does make them more prone to blunting as well. It just needs to catch on some gravel and the point will blunt.

    I may be wrong, but I have been told you never press hard with a diamond file as you can wear off the diamond dust. Just gentle pressure will work as diamond is very hard and your file will last much longer. Mind you I doubt the manufacturer wants you to keep the same file for years ;-)

    I've a diamond file on my leatherman that i use, followed by a couple of strokes with a £1.99 finishing stone. Instead of paying £50 for this or the jag kit a decent leatherman would be a much better investment. Pretty much invaluable to me since I started fishing last year, never go without it.

    @CastAirLead no you're right fella everyone prefers blunt hooks because they catch all the fish. I also use fraid line and a broken rod and my catch rates through the roof

    @CastAirLead £6-£7 a packet? I want precision laser etched points straight out of the bag for that mate. I check hook and sharpen each cast no matter what but if you sell them unsharpened its £2 a packet

    I think on balance this is not for me. I tie up a few hook links with new hooks and if one of my hooks has blunted while fishing, I swap the hook link for a new one. That IMO is the easiest way of making sure your hooks are always sharp.

  • @onemaninaboat

    In my personal experience 75% of the hooks I use do not pass the nail test (fox ssbp) so they require a bit of work prior to going in the water. Secondly tying rigs is time consuming and expensive, so if you can refresh a hook after it's caught you a fish you are saving time and money. The results I have seen since I've started sharpening hooks really opened my eyes as to why the sharp hooks matter. The sometimes weird hookholds i have seen that landed me a fish would have never happened without this little bit of work. Btw i use JAG kit but i am seriously considering using nash file as i need a replacement.

    Ight I get that The deluxe kit will last a long time but come on £50 for a couple of files , magnifing glass with an LED and vice , too much boys , quality I get that but for someone like me it’s too much just to sharpen a hook , yeah maybe it does catch for fish but fishing kit is already over priced we all know you will still make profit if you sell it for £30 or £25

    You approach hook sharpening as if building hook from the start! Hooks come already 'sharp'. All we need to do is polish the very point. Polishing rouge, not coarse files, is all that is needed to finish the hook. A miniature leather strop with or without polishing rouge and 7 to 10 strokes is all that is needed...or a fresh hook, stropped.

    Yep 50 pence cheaper than the old ones... Think he must be on about the kit. Funnily enough it's no more expensive than the JAG kit and guess what? You don't have to buy it! Take it for what this video is...a free guide to sharpening hooks by someone who is really good at it. I know because he did it right in front of my eyes at The NAS6 last weekend. I'm buying the file but I've already got a different vice and stones and I'm sure they'll work just fine. Appreciate the video Marc and I'm looking forward to giving it a go. 👍🏻
