Ok, I'm going to say it. Jelly Roll rugs are a 1920's era of homemade rug given a new name. My grandmum taught me how to make these way back in the 60's when I was a kid. I bought the pattern thinking there would be something new in how it was made. There wasn't. It's exactly the same. The only difference is the original ones were made from the fabric of worn out clothes and old blankets, quilts used for the filler. All that said your video is fantastic. You really walked people through the process incredibly well.

LOL--reminds me of the story about my great-grandma's room-sized hooked rug. She had collected old clothes from various family members to make the strips, and when the rug was finished, they held a "rug-warming party." Before long, everyone was down on the floor, exclaiming, "Oh, there's a piece of my dress!" or "There's a bit of Nat's pants!" Great-gram just sat there shaking her head. ;-) Wish I could have been there, but it was before my time!

What I love about watching your videos. I appreciate the fact that you actually show or explain mistakes that did happen or could happen and we can see (or you tell us of course) different mistakes that have happened. I am dyslexic and I have spent many of hours ripping my sewing out even though you read patterns everyone reads it differently. lol I have bought this pattern actually twice now lol. I had one that I bought years ago exactly forgot I had it in storage when I moved and bought it again. Soooo Hoping I can dig it out after im done with the project I am on now and ill be viewing into Mister Domestic for all your great knowledge. Keep it up love to watch you work and have fun all at the same time.

This was an awesome tutorial to accompany my pattern! I wasn't sure whether to use Roma's 1/4" seam or the 1/8" specified in the video, I used the 1/4" and then realized why the 1/8" would have been the better choice, as it ensures that you will catch all layers! Also, the tip about the flat surface and the use of Best Press...YUP!!! I will totally make more of these rugs, a fun project and great guidance...thank you!

I enjoyed your video and your roll feeding hanger inspired me to make something to help feed the jelly roll fabric after it is sewn end to end and the roll of batting for sewing. The sewing process of getting those two items sewn into the "rope" is taking a bit of time, but it is turning out wonderfully and I am sure the feeding "mechanism" really helping it go more smoothly than it would have otherwise gone. Thanks again, loved your presentation.

I love your video, and used the hanger method. I didn't use the precut 2.5" batting (it seems to be sold out everywhere), so I cut my own out of king size batting by the yard. I prepared the jelly roll piece and sewed the batting together one night. Today, I made the roll. I don't know HOW you could have done it in 3 30-minute sessions . . . it took me 2 movies and 2 episodes of Sherlock to get the robe ball done! Of course, I did take a few breaks (gotta eat and feed the kids, etc). One thing that may have taken me longer is that every 18" I would fold and finger press each section, then sew. The ball is now done, and I will start the zigzag part after work tomorrow.
