How to sew a zipped pencil case/box pouch. Back to school DIY
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This week I am sharing how to sew a zipped pencil case and a box pouch. If you are heading back to school this Autumn then this is the DIY for you. In this video I am sharing how to make two options. An easy sew simple pouch and a slightly harder zipper pouch.
I hope you find this video easy to follow.
Here are the measurements of the pouches.
The 1st pouch measures - 13 inches wide and 9 inches in length, when boxing the corners I measure 1 inch from the point. I used a 14 inch zip and trimmed to size.
The 2nd pouch measures - 10 inches in width and 5 inches in length and I used a 10 inch zipper.
The larger box pouch in the clips measures - 13 inches in width and 18 inches in length. When boxing the corners I measure 2 inches from the point. I used a 14 inch zipper and trimmed to size.

This is a perfect project to do with my granddaughters. They can pick out their own fabric, and will love the fact they made it themselves!

I was feeling low today so I wanted to do something creative to cheer myself up. Been meaning to use up some scrap fabric I've had knocking about for ages now and I needed a pencil case, so I'm so glad I found this video. I thought it would be tricky but you made it so easy. Clear simple instructions. I love my new pencil case and have decided to make more for Christmas presents for my friends and family. Thank you so much!

Love the fabric pattern . Instead of the interfacing .I'm going to use vinyl iron on which at Jo-Ann's it's with the interfacing . Thank you so much .
You made it look so easy! I’ve seen others and they take so many unnecessary steps. It’s so hard for a beginner. Yours is the best version. Thanks for sharing!

It wasn't that long ago you were worried about tackling zips. You've certainly got over that hurdle! You make it look so easy. Be great to use fabrics from dresses, as you've done before, that I don't want to throw but love the fabric. Hmm I think I might have to try this too! Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend x
They are so pretty . Perfect for scrap busting too

Thank you sew sew much!! :D As a sewing beginner this was my first time trying anything with a zip and my first time trying to sew anything with lining. My head would have been melted trying to figure out which way to face and align the zip, lining and outer material without your wonderful tutorial, without which I have no doubt I would have had the zip upside down and the lining facing the wrong way!!!

You are so clever, you can turn your hand to anything💗💗
I have been watching many videos like this one, but your first pencil case is the BEST version I have seen. My grandsons start school in a few weeks, so I will be making them these!! Thank you for such all the information you provide!😊💕💐❤💖 I have also seen the larger zipper pouch made out of quilted placemats... then you don't have to line them!

This project is amazing. Thank U so much.
I love your videos! I am watching them 1 by 1. You are so lovely, and I could listen to your voice every minute of the day! When I was little, an Irish family moved to Queens, New York ( which I enjoyed seeing in your New York travel videos when you attended the Create... Conference.), and I met my best friend Maureen at PS229. Sadly, her family moved away soon after, but I still miss her to this day! I am having so much fun watching your videos, and then going and reading your accompanying blog. I love watching your how to videos with your delightful intros and stories! You really do it all beautifully. I share your love of cottage shabby chic and roses and pretty towns and, well all of what you share! You’re photography and video editing are wonderful, and to think you do it all while working a retail job. You’re amazing, but I knew that right away from the first video I saw of you when you explained how you saved for your house and made it gorgeous with virtually no money! 🌺🍭🍬❤️🌈 Please keep your wonderful videos coming. I think you said you can only do 1 a week on your day off, but I want more! Keep up the great work, lovely, happy girl. Glad beautiful Blondie let you sew! I want to be brave like you and learn to use my sewing machine that just sits, and I’ve never tried it! ✂️Cheers, LKH🖼

This is so awesome!♥️good job, and I am going to have to try it! ♥️😃
I just made this as a birthday present for my friend and it turned out super cute! Thanks for sharing it with us :) *One thing I will note is, make sure you use stiff interfacing for your fabric, as I used some that is not as stiff and the bag was not as sturdy as hers. However, the two fabrics I used were both super thin, so it might just be my own fault. Thanks again, Catherine!

Exactly what I was looking for. I just splurged, well, its a splurge for me as I don't find it easy to buy for myself, but I decided in my 40's to teach myself to draw and paint and as I've gotten a bit better I was ready to buy some nicer, real artist pencils...not the crazy expensive ones I've not totally gone over the deep end, not for spending anyway ;) but I was looking at cute pencil cases to use just when I want to bring just a few things with me to always have and don't need the while tin, but they're pretty expensive if they're cute at all and mostly too big. Oh and plus, after I've not been sewing a while I get super nervous of that darn machine and I've never gotten good at it....but I'm bound and determined to get past that hurdle as well, so, thought a simple bag or pencil case might be fun to try and feel proud of....hopefully 😳😊 So thank you for this and you have many other's i can't wait to look at as well! Beautiful channel :) thanks again!!!

Your tutorial is so easy to follow thank you. So all I need to buy is a zipper and facing I already have the fabric to make the bigger pouch. These are so cute and dainty. Please make a video of your favorite stationary and other essentials. I remember how excited it was to have new crayons, pencils, paper, back pack and even a cute lunch kit the first day of school 🚌 Oh and new dresses 👗 and shoes. Loved your video😘
