Just a little tip....It would be so much easier and cleaner if you place the flap magnet on BEFORE sewing into the cover back. That way, it's covered by the right side of the material. Be sure to add a small piece of interfacing or material so that the prongs do not cut into the outer fabric upon usage.

Yeah, that is an option, but the snap will be stronger if it’s through both layers, since it’s going to be pulled on over and over, I thought it might eventually tear through the fabric! I think that was my logic. Interfacing in the tab would help though 👍🏻

I was searching for a book cover tutorial and your's popped up. Thank you so much for the very easy to follow instructions! I love the little handles. I made a Bible cover for a senior lady that lives in an assisted living facility and it turned out great. I used Velcro for the closure because I thought it would be easiest for her to manage. I'm excited to give it to her tomorrow!

This was by far the best video for a book cover. I have watched countless videos and either they talk a mile a minute, or the presenter doesn't talk at all and there is only awful music with finger pointing as to what you should be doing, etc Thank you for helping me to make an awesome Bible cover for my " sword".

I’m 3 years late, I know . . . I like your idea. I don’t think you’re lazy. I do think topstitching adds a nice “tailored” look. I’ll add an extra 1/4 inch to measurement to keep the original size though. How did yours turn out?

This reminds me of a personal notebook I created out of a cereal box for the cover, and rubber bands over the spine, which held folded paper signatures. I sewed the signatures each down their spine on my machine. I could put up to 20 pieces of paper through my sewing machine no problem. When a signature gets used up, it's so easy to slip it out of the rubber band, sew another one, and slip it back under the rubber band. Often I like to use multiple rubber bands and signatures in one book, which can help me organize different types of notes or appointments, especially if I use different paper for it. Sometimes I even like to run my signatures through my machine on a close stitch with no thread, to create perforations near the spine, so individual pages can be torn out neatly. I like sizing my notebooks according to the paper I'm using. I enjoy graph paper, and I fold it in half or in quarters, and make the cover an appropriate size for that. I glued pretty paper to the plain side of the cereal box for the inside cover, then I had the fabric for the outside cover, and I zigzagged around the outside edge to keep the cover firmly attached to the fabric. This makes such a handy notebook to keep in my purse all the time! I also sew an elastic loop on to hold a pen. I love that I can customize it completely, and I feel empowered that I can replace the signatures as often as I need without paying big money to a store to buy them.

@@PinCutSew I wish I could send you pictures, because I really love how it turns out, but I don't have a working camera right now. But I promise you, if you just mess around with the ingredients it's surprisingly easy to create something beautiful and useful. I got the idea from seeing people using Midori traveller's notebooks, and Bullet Journalling, and Junk Journalling, and of course my own love of fabric. To me the point is to use what you have, and expect it to be imperfect because that's the beauty of it! "Perfect" notebooks often don't get used because they are just too pretty to ruin with my bad handwriting or messy notes and doodles etc. But a quickly thrown-together notebook like this is not intimidating. I can abuse it all I want and use it up and make more! I guess the big breakthrough is just realizing you can sew through paper or thin cardboard. After that it's a snap to get creative with it!

Love the Bible cover but I would have put the snap on before sewing the closure part so the prongs were not showing also I would add a piece of felt or some kind of fabric between the snap and book fabric to give it mor strength so not to pull on the original fabric. Over all a great tutorial. Thanks for sharing
