Great tutorial. Don't apologize for going in depth. There are thousands of Blender "beginner" tutorials that are all giving the same bone-basic info. And thousands more that are crazy-advanced. What we need more of are tuts like this for "advanced beginner" So take your time and don't apologize, this is good stuff. Keep 'm coming!

Your channel is perfect the way it is, don't listen to anyone but yourself. Ironically it seems to be popular advice from all the top KZreadrs. You likely owe your already healthy subscriber base to your uniquely brief and "to-the-point" style. Even if their intentions may be good , people are here to derail you from what makes you successful. There are other KZreadrs they can go to for something in-depth, but it doesn't have to be your thing. Personally I'm usually working against a deadline (3D is not my hobby), and I'm not going to sit through someone explaining theory or whatever. When I have time I don't mind something longer. I make ridiculously long videos myself, that aren't very popular lol. I think this video in particular was just long enough to give someone what they need to go off on their own.
@KevBinge

Awesome reply, and thanks!! I also do 3D for a career and I favor brevity due to the crazy deadline pressure at times lol. I like being straight to the point even in videos that go over 20 minutes. I usually leave the theory for the theory videos lol! Have a great day!
Thank you! A clear and comprehensive explanation of this whole process! Much appreciated

I've been trying to find a tutorial on using displacement textures, but you did more by giving an overview of the other textures like hight and normal. using displacement maps in blender. It was a good video length, too. Thanks a lot!
I might have commented on this tutorial before. But, I went through it again and the examples I exported came out pretty good this time around. There is some hope. Thanks!

Thank you for the tutorial. A couple of comments: 1) A normal map and a height map are going to both be generated from the same data-- they're just different ways of getting from the original (possibly, an actual mesh) to your normal. You don't want to be using both, just one or the other, or else you're double dipping. 2) If you're using tangent space normal maps, then what works on a default plane isn't necessarily what works on a different mesh (which is then going to have different UV tangents.) I'm not really sure why I see so many texture packs distributed with these nearly useless normal maps that are artifact-free only for default planes. If you have a high quality (ie, not a jpg) displacement or bump map, and you're not just trying to render a default plane, I'd recommend using the bump over using the normal map. Yes, there are magnification artifacts when using bump; best is to bake the bump to your own mesh's tangents as a normal map, which is also a good way of seeing how that differs from using the normal map designed for a default plane. (Although really, to see this, all you have to do is notice how the normals change when you rotate your UV map 90 degrees.)
thank you! this was the exact tutorial I needed (and the exact level of explanation)! Perfection.
