    ya, ive taken this to a whole new level, single buckets, not rdwc, and man it rocks, no weekly cleaning, no chillers, low volume water, a breeze to run, but it needs you there every day, not for long, you can setup automation but its very pricey as u need a system for each bucket, great for home growers, commercial, not so much. i'm gonna make a vid about it \m/ \m/ vids like this got me started, so thx \m/ \m/ oh and best of all, no media. at all :)

    If you wanna keep your water temp cooler, put your air pump outside the tent. the outside air will keep your water temp cooler than the tent by default(assuming it is actually cooler outside the tent, which I would assume to be the case in most cases). My room temperature outside the tent is the same temp as my water inside the tent(70°F) and im pretty sure that's why.

  • @GrowAce

  • @GrowAce

    @GrowAce

    6 жыл бұрын

    You are completely right. Some tomatoes will grow beyond that capacity, there are a few that will be constrained within the pot and vine outwards if not managed. For large grows, like this one, it is encouraged to relocate the plant once it begins to bud or flower, either to a larger pot or a permanent bed for the best yield. For the initial stages, it is more practical to start in smaller pots, like the one used.

Keep in mind air stones when turned off can syphon water back thru do keep your pump higher or put in a check valve.

    To control water temps better, have a tiled surface under the reservoir, the ceramic will stay cool and keep your water stable as you heat it with an aquarium heater to temp. I would usually find some unused tiles a stone table top as a base would be better. Anything that will stay cool and basically radiate heat from the reservoir.

    That's actually a pretty good way to chill your bucket without an actual chiller. Chillers are pretty expensive and if you grow on a budget, using something as simple as a frozen water bottle is pretty genius. I'd say the only thing to keep in mind is to use smaller bottles unless you're growing in a larger reservoir. Otherwise, great video and thanks for the tips!

    Changing the water frequently is a good idea, as it will help reset the pH level and reduce any chance of root rot, bacterial growth or any adverse agents. Add nutrients to the reservoir once or twice a week. If unsure, lean towards underfeeding and add more if showing yellowing or discoloration. It is easier to better for the plant to have less food and add more than to flush out the plant of all nutrients and start over. Pay attention to the plant, it will tell you what it needs.

    It all depends on your irrigation system and material of the bucket. A general guide to when a bucket should be cleaned is when you notice mineral deposits, usually made noticeable by a white ring or discoloration on the walls of the pot. Another indication is if the roots begin to look look malnourished or rot.

  • @GrowAce

    @GrowAce

    6 жыл бұрын

    Pot size is dependent if you intend to transfer to a larger pot. It is perfectly fine to start with a 12" pot, but there is a large waist of nutrients and space that will not be utilized until the plant is larger. 6" pots save space and are more efficient with the distribution of nutrients and water, but require the need for future transplanting. The temperature largely depends on the plant, as the average flourishing temperature for most crops is between 65 and 70. Though, you are correct that higher water temperatures can increase the potential for algae and adverse bacterial and organisms, this type of grow system requires regular maintenance and water circulation to prevent those short comings.

    Flint Great question! It depends on the temperature outside as well as where you're placing the buckets. If it's directly on the ground (cement), then you would have to use an ice bottle every once in a while to cool down the water. If you have the buckets raised on a pallet or something similar, it can help and you don't have to cool it down as often.

  • @jasonthrills2478

    @jasonthrills2478

    7 жыл бұрын

    That advice is wrong, concrete is a perfect wick of heat. Setting your buckets on wood which is an absorber of heat would be unwise. Take foiled bubble wrap and wrap your buckets. That will keep your temps down. And anyone thinking of using the ice bottle method is insane. Ice will melt in under an hour and back to shocking your roots. You will kill your plants with that routine. Another method is to put your reservoir in the ground. Ground temps stay around 75 degrees 6 inches under the soil.

    My friend is new to this. She has a grow 3x3 grow tent and will be using one bucket. She purchased the 6 site Bubble Brothers for some reason, to discover that she won't be squeezing 6 plants into a 3x3. She has a 400 LED which produces massive amounts of heat. She doesn't have ventilation for the tent because she's growing in a small room without fresh air. It's the only option she has. Is there any way to create fresh air in the room? Thanks!

    From 1.24, you state to keep lowering water level to give the roots a reason to grow further. Is the only way to do this is by manually lifting the lid up all the time and check or is there a less manual and better method of checking root growth to water level? Cameron

    DWC works very well... But.. DWC has to be monitored more regularly than other hydro systems like NFT and FLOOD & DRAIN. (& Others) This is because the roots can grow so quickly that they quite often start to block/partially block inlet and outlets in the pots. That said if you have time to check on the plants every 1 or 2 days then it's possibly the best method for yield. (When combined with HPS lights and a good environment) of course. NFT and Flood and drain systems work almost as well for growth speed and yield but those systems can happily be left on their own for 4-5 days without any problem. (Providing the Reservoir is Large enough.) I have in the past personally left NFT Systems with no checks for a week before. (I wouldn't leave them for a week on their own between week 4 - 7 of flower though as they suck up a lot of nutrient at that stage.)

    The difference between a failed or successful DWC grow would be using Hydroguard by GH or not using it. I literally have seen a 3 inch 1 week and a half old plant with root rot grow to a foot tall by week 3...seriously use it...

    The ice is too cold and if it touches the roots it can stunt them or kill them so I’d say find a way to keep the ice down or tie it around the reservoir maybe

  • @djinn130

    @djinn130

    Yes, that is the point of RO, you start with a clean slate for your nutrients. You start with RO, add Calcium-Magnesium supplements, then add your hydroponics nutrients. The calcium and magnesium in tap water are not readily available to a plant, but the one you add in RO is. Take care!

    from my understanding tap water is usually treated and has traces of chlorine and kills good bacteria used for keeping the plant healthy. also ro water is stripped of all nutrients so you need a mag and cal solution

  • @GrowAce

    @GrowAce

    9 жыл бұрын

    Turtleseedswhale s Great question! It's surprisingly simple-- find a bucket of similar size, find the plant you want to change the water for, take the DWC cap off and carefully move the plant and all the roots into the extra bucket. Then, rinse your used bucket, refill with water and nutrients (make sure you measure for pH and PPM!), and put the DWC and roots back inside the bucket. Hope this helps! Oh, and Turtleseedswhale s , thanks for watching!

    is it true that. the bigger your roots the less water you put in your reservoir to help the roots breath? But what if I have a c02? so i wouldn't have to lower the water?
