How to set up Group Call: Motorola TLKR T80 walkie talkie tutorial

Ғылым және технология

Affordable handheld radios and accessories from www.handyradio.co.uk
The group call function (GRP) was something I didn't use on the TLKR T8. Having spent some time with the new T80 I can see it being a very useful feature for some group users. You can call an individual radio in the group and having your ID displayed on the receiver's handset.

    May I ask something about the Sync function: (1) Is it a must to initiate "sync" before each call? (2) As you've said in the video, if other users have changed their settings (ie. channel, code, name etc), you (the master radio) can get them back and correct by initiating "sync" process. But if they're on a different channel (that's why you have to give a syn to them), , how can you sync them with your own channel? The other users and you are on different channels, signal can't be transmitted.

    That's actually really useful and unique on PMR446 radios. I do wonder how works, though. Some kind of data being transmitted?

  • @radiosification
    @radiosification10 жыл бұрын

    Interesting, but I was disappointed that you didn't show HOW it actually works. Like, how it syncs and calls individual members. Does it send tones before or after transmissions to do this, like MDC1200, or does it use a completely different method such as extra info in the DCS stream? What happens if you listen in on a scanner? You would probably hear some tones?

    Hi Handy Radio can you answer a question for me please? I have 2 x T80 extremes. If they are on channel 1 sub 1 for example and then I use dual watch on say 2 sub 6 Is it correct that only the 2 x radios on 1/1 can talk to each other without 2/6 being able to pick up transmissions from them whilst the 2 radios on 1/1 can hear 2/6. Or should i be trying another method? I want 2 x radios to be able to communicate with each other without interfering with the other channel that i can hear. Many thanks, James

    If both radios are set at 1-1 while "watching" 2-6, and when one of the radios is transmitting at 1-1, then another radio will receive signal at 1-1; and if at that time 2-6 has signal, both radios will not pick up the 2-6 signal as they are currently transmitting/receiving at 1-1.

We use the radio to communicate in general/ punctures/, etc. What would be the best settings to put onto my T80,s which would give me the best reception, and based on what I use them for, the best usage and optimum operation ? The clearness of signal transmission and reception really depends on the geographical location and the level of battery. The range of the signal Tx and Rx is internally limited as long as you do not modify it. (Modification of radio may VIOLATE some laws in your country. Be careful.)

    Is there a way for 2 x T80 handsets to listen to a channel at the same time (say 7,17) but to also be able to contact each another (ring tone etc) to tell them to swap to a pre agreed channel or group for a conversation without broadcasting it on that channel 7,17?

  • @galax574

    @galax574

    6 жыл бұрын

    If you're using group mode, you can inform your partner to switch to another channel by giving your partner a private call. This private call will NOT broadcast on 7-17. But if you're using normal mode, you cannot use private call as it is only available in group mode. There are several ways for you to inform your partner to change to a new channel, for example, call him with your mobile phone, inform him orally, inform him by email etc......

    klamenza Hi the answer is NO sorry. You only have 8 channels with fixed frequencies beginning 446.00625MHz. You need to find out the frequency being used by other para guys and see if it's the 446 band. If now I'm afraid you'll have to purchase some radios which are capable of that frequency. Theoretically you can have infinite number of radios in the same group. If you are still facing the noisy interference problem, try using other channels and CTCSS/DCS codes. Never place radios too close to each other as radio will interfere with another one.

    If you use a particular channel and a CTCSS/DCS code in group mode, people cannot "hack" into your conversation by randomly guessing the CTCSS/DCS code. Even a frequency counter (aka. tone decoder) cannot precisely interpret the code.

    @@gerryrooney4862 You don't always have to use group mode. Group mode is a mode that "masks" from the normal channel so that normal channel cannot interrupt you, and is a mode that allows having "private call function". For example, if radio A is set to have a group mode with channel 3 code 8, while radio B is having normal mode at channel 3 code 8. Both radios cannot talk to each other although they are in channel 3 code 8, this is because one is in group mode while another isn't. Group mode is more advanced and requires a little skills in setting it up. I suggest you set both radios in normal mode, and set both radios in the SAME CHANNEL AND SAME CODE. They should work. For sure, you can buy a frequency counter so that when the radio transmits, you know the frequency which the radios is transmitting at. Otherwise, I believe your radios are out of service.

    First things first, these FRS radios come with two frequency versions: 409 MHz and 446 MHz. Obviously they are not interchangeable. Once you know the frequency the radios are using, you simply set the EXACT channel and tone, the radios would work. For T80 Extreme, you should check whether the "Group Call" function is activated.

    @@alfajertechnologies5131 The "Radio ID" is, in my opinion, mainly for private calls. If so, you can only have 16 radios in a group. But if you use group mode while never use private call function in the group mode, the number of radios is unlimited. (Because you're just initiating one-to-many transmission) For example, if you use, in group mode, channel 3 and code 3, you can buy infinite number of radios and tune them to that channel. All of them should work. But if you wish to use private call function in the group mode of channel 3 code 3, you can only call 1 of the 16 radios while the remainder cannot be called, but can still receive the normal group call.
