No... No no no. You can't say "you're ready" and not talk about NOT pointing (or to avoid it as often as possible) the flash at your subject but instead bounce it off a surface. And you should always try to use a diffusor. In the beginning, I tried to use TTL, (even remote controlled TTL) and it seldom have me a good result. So mostly been using manual settings. But yes, that is not for a beginner yet.
@JosephValenti

The not mentioning the bounce is a really good point, only can fit so much in a short tho :( And yea 💯 agree with the diffusor, I probably should made a quick comment about those two things. But I do disagree with ttl giving bad results, I love my ttl results especially in fast pace environments like wedding receptions. Hi, I am not fan of your settings. When i am using flash, i am in manual exposure to select aperture and tune shutter speed for good exposure of background (i can darken background ; i am sometimes using a ND filter to further darken background in daylight while remaining less than sync speed). I am sometimes using a flashmeter to tune the power of my flash (V1s off camera, ad200pro,...). auto iso is dangerous because it can take strange decisions about shutter speed or high iso with high noise. I prefer starting at iso 200 and never exceed iso 800. I like to press ttl to see how equipment analyzes light and switch to TCM with these settings so consistent photos.

AWB often works pretty well for me. But some times it just isn’t good enough. Try to get to where you’re shooting early and have someone help test to take some shots and adjust the manual white balance as needed. Probably I find at weddings is often they change lighting for like dances, then like party dancing, then it will get more white again and less warm as they eat dinner, and those cold sparklers are rough as well when setting a manual white balance. Shoot in raw adjust in post and should be okay

If you are going to mix ambient light and flash, you try to make them the same color. And since you cannot add a gel to your ambient light source, you add gel to your flash to make them same color. Example: add CTO gel to balance with sunlight and magenta gel to balance with flourescent lights.
