I can’t thank you enough for posting this video, Ryan. The focus you’ve brought to efficient practice, to effectively invest time and energy for outcomes, would have been a godsend for me as a young trumpeter practicing/over-practicing 4-6 hours/daily and playing another 2-3! Now as an older one, (64 in this summer - yikes!) it’s even more of a game-changer! Tomorrow evening, my students and I are meeting for 90 minutes to design and commit to our summer programs. I’ll create a spreadsheet for us in advance, but the students and I will define and populate our primary goals individually. This video will serve as one building block toward my other summer project - reorganizing and rebuilding my trumpet studio. No better time than summer to make this happen!

I like to practice Clarke #2 with different scales: harmonic minor, octotonic (diminished) and whole tone. Other things to do with Clarke #2: play them upside down or play them in 7/4 or both. There's a great method book by Bryan Davis that has all these written out; recommended. I think it's called "Twisted Technical Studies" or something like that. Very helpful vid, Ryan; thanks for that.

That’s a lifetime’s work for most of us! I llike the day off you’ve put in there. Brass players need to take a day or two off per month, IMHO. At least.
