    Excellent video. I have an SL-D3 I'm selling in an antique booth. Someone screwed the counterweight all the way in, messed with the gauge, turned the anti-skate to max and broke off the stylus. I couldn't remember how I'd set up the gauge properly, so this was perfect. I just got everything set up again. I'm sure people would want to see how to set the anti-skate too. I'm surprised you didn't do that. I use the quick and dirty method with a Laserdisc. It's not perfectly accurate, but it's damn close.

    I’m very new to this I have an MCS 6720 quartz component quartz controlled, fully automatic turntable. I don’t know the weight setting I was able to get it to float but when I put the needle on the record, it just runs across it from the outside to the inside and I’m not sure what they do.

    I’ve had this record player lay around for a while because I didn’t know how to use it. Today I’ve been trying to make it work but the sound is really soft. I know there’s 2 wires to connect it to speakers but I don’t know what type of speaker it has to be. Could you help me out?

    I'm having an issue with my counter weight. The only way I can get the tone arm to float, I have to roll the weight so far back that I can't close the cover without it hitting the weight and pushing forward and thus ruining the perfect balance. The weight is almost coming off of the rod that it sits in. Any suggestions? Also, it looks like I have the same turntable as you (SL-220), if that helps.

    +john harris I didn't have the turntable level. I noticed it after I did the video. If it's level and the antiskating is set properly, it should stay still.

  • @StillSpinning3

    @StillSpinning3

    Yes. It can cause it to be faint and even distorted if weight is too light. Too heavy can damage your albums. Get the recommended weight of your cartridge and set it up to that. If that doesn't work, this could be the issue: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X5ZrzdJsYLjJpps.html

    Did you forget to set anti skate to zero before you start, then when you have the correct tracking force add the anti skate matching the weight reading i,e, 1.5g tracking weight 1.5 on the anti skate

    So you're saying set the anti skate and the tracking force to zero, and then once you get the tracking force to the recommended/desired weight you then set the anti skate to the same number?

  • @Nightrelic

    @Nightrelic

    Жыл бұрын

    @@joelortiz9259 Anti-skate won't necessarily be the same number as the tracking force. You basically want to get it so the tone arm doesn't exert pressure forward or back, so it sits in the center of the groove and puts less wear on the record. I use the Laserdisc method. Put a Laserdisc on and adjust the antiskate until the tone arm just sits in one place. If it's off it'll move toward the center or toward the edge. It isn't perfect, but it gets it damn close.

    Welcome to the vinyl community! First, make sure your turntable is on a level playing surface and the anti-skating dial is set to equal the recommended weight of your cartridge. Then make sure your counterweight is properly balanced: How to Set Up / Adjust / Balance the Counterweight of your Turntable Tone Arm/Needle/Cartridge Lastly, make sure your turntable is set to play 33s. Hope this helps!

    +mateo Sanchez Yeah I completely missed anti-skating. Just set the dial to match the weight of the tonearm. Example the weight of my tonearm is 1.5 grams so I would set the anti-skating dial to 1.5 as well. Hope this helps.
