How to Set Up A Saltwater Tank for under $200!

Reefing can be expensive. So I wanted to show you how to set up a saltwater tank for cheap! I did have to do some shopping around for all the supplies but you don't need to buy new when setting up a saltwater tank! Now to let this baby cycle and add my clownfish :)
Thank you for watching. I'll leave links to the equipment I bought.

If you lay the sand first, then put a plate on top of the sand, then pour water into the plate it will fill the tank with minimal disturbance to the sand.

this is true I've done this I've had a 20 gallon of saltwater aquarium for over two years now it looks beautiful I have so many different Coral in it I do not have a sump or a protein skimmer the most expensive thing you're going to buy usually is going to be the light make sure you get the right light do your research and if you want it to look really good make sure you do it at least 25% water changes once a week which is about five gallons and never talk your aquarium with salt water only RO water or distilled these are small little tips for real you can do this and it's beautiful trust me I know what I'm talking about I have more tanks than you can imagine salt and fresh I would like to see more people with aquariums specially saltwater it's beautiful and it's an amazing experience it's like you have a little piece of the ocean with you at all times

Future reference it's a lot faster just to use black spray paint. And it only cost you a dollar with a dry time of less than an 30-40 min. That's how most of my aquarium stores do it. I went an extra mile and put polyurethane over top of it so it won't scratch.

Just make sure you do a water change at least twice a month. If you can get your water/salt premixed from the pet store, that’s great. If not, use a current pump and heater to mix your water and salt, overnight. You’ll want a hob protein skimmer, more than a hob filter. Feed sparingly. Do all that, and you’ll have a happy fish. As you learn more about the hobby, you can branch into other areas, like keeping coral.

Hagen Aquaclear filters are the shiznick for smaller saltwater tanks until you get down to a 2.5 gallon tank! They are probably the most flexible filter out there and on lager tanks they can serve as a small HOB refugium later down the road when you have a bigger tank than what you started with.

I painted my aquarium (55g) the same way.. I wish I would have taken the time to seal off the top and front of the tank with plastic sheeting because really, painting the tank by hand = alot of wasted time. Instead, I would have painted the back (and sides - in my case) with an enamel spray like that of Tremclad Rust - O - Lum. Their would not be any variations of black pigmentations on the surface of the glass. Every layer would be equal to one another and no accidental rub marks caused by the brush.

Black acrylic craft paint. Cheap and easy. Not too hard to remove, usually, with razor blade.

A few little clown fish and a couple of Hermite clowns with some small corals would be great in a tank that size.

1 your right you add the sand before water, it’s much easier 2 don’t trust the all the employees at the pet store because they can’t always tell you everything because the customer is always right

What brand is the Tank? If its Aqueon those go on sale often for a 1.00 per gallon. But they're not manufactured for saltwater and are known for leaks after prolonged use.

U should get the marineland 200 HOB, I to buy everything from Petco. They do price match just like you said, & did it with Amazon $28. That aqua clear won't keep up with bio load. I have it running on my 10 gallon saltwater setup at wrk, clean lots of flow.

Nice mate. I'm from Australia. Thinking of turning my 2 Foot Cube Tank into salt. I only use Rainwater for my Tropical tanks, is this still okay to use? So.. Filter, Sand, Rock, Lights, and Salt. Is this all I'd need? Thank you Happy Fish Keeping 👍 🐠

Most people would advise you not to, but I think that if you live in an area that does not have too much pollution you could, but I might be completely wrong so don't trust me.
