How to Set Up A Saltwater Tank for under $200!
Reefing can be expensive. So I wanted to show you how to set up a saltwater tank for cheap! I did have to do some shopping around for all the supplies but you don't need to buy new when setting up a saltwater tank! Now to let this baby cycle and add my clownfish :)

You can replace the intake with a sponge, you might need to use an elastic or something like fishing line to hold it down, but that will save you a few inches.
Aquaclear definitely makes the best HOB filter, I use them on all of my fresh water tanks
this is true I've done this I've had a 20 gallon of saltwater aquarium for over two years now it looks beautiful I have so many different Coral in it I do not have a sump or a protein skimmer the most expensive thing you're going to buy usually is going to be the light make sure you get the right light do your research and if you want it to look really good make sure you do it at least 25% water changes once a week which is about five gallons and never talk your aquarium with salt water only RO water or distilled these are small little tips for real you can do this and it's beautiful trust me I know what I'm talking about I have more tanks than you can imagine salt and fresh I would like to see more people with aquariums specially saltwater it's beautiful and it's an amazing experience it's like you have a little piece of the ocean with you at all times

Future reference it's a lot faster just to use black spray paint. And it only cost you a dollar with a dry time of less than an 30-40 min. That's how most of my aquarium stores do it. I went an extra mile and put polyurethane over top of it so it won't scratch.

Just make sure you do a water change at least twice a month. If you can get your water/salt premixed from the pet store, that’s great. If not, use a current pump and heater to mix your water and salt, overnight. You’ll want a hob protein skimmer, more than a hob filter. Feed sparingly. Do all that, and you’ll have a happy fish. As you learn more about the hobby, you can branch into other areas, like keeping coral.

Do more research. Bulk reef has a tutorial series. Watch it. It will help a ton. Also go to your local fish store. They will help you. Research everything. I wish you luck. Been in the hobby since I was 7yrs old. I'm 32 now lol.
Hagen Aquaclear filters are the shiznick for smaller saltwater tanks until you get down to a 2.5 gallon tank! They are probably the most flexible filter out there and on lager tanks they can serve as a small HOB refugium later down the road when you have a bigger tank than what you started with.
Thank u sooo much i just bough a 46 gallon w stand and just painted tomorrow im buying the rest
I cut the end of filter intake where i was left with "fingers"pushed back up inside of next step of the plastic intake screen and super glued it back together. I didn't want to buy another filter. I already had it and liked the skimmer built in worked well.
Nice informative video, you popped the saltwater bubble that was stopping me from doing one, I might consider doing one now because of you!

saltwater is great. the heater shown is not sufficient for this size tank. but good quality heater is only $30. But cheap is not always the way to. many products will work for both fresh or saltwater, but salt kills cheap electronics fast.
I use a small foam paint roller found at craft stores for painting acrylic onto aquariums. Works way better 👍
You know, you can use adhesive vinyl from your local sign shop (or sometimes hobby shops) and never have to deal with the paint mess! Just keep it in mind.

Honestly I love saltwater creatures but out of fear of possibly losing said creatures, I am scared to even have a saltwater set up. Awesome bro! Thanks for good tip. First time I try to set up salt water, I got so confuse because over thinking, you mạke me feel better now bro. I subscribe you right now..have a good one bro.
when starting this hobby at first i thought the most expensive thing is the tank and the lightning is the cheapest
I painted my aquarium (55g) the same way.. I wish I would have taken the time to seal off the top and front of the tank with plastic sheeting because really, painting the tank by hand = alot of wasted time. Instead, I would have painted the back (and sides - in my case) with an enamel spray like that of Tremclad Rust - O - Lum. Their would not be any variations of black pigmentations on the surface of the glass. Every layer would be equal to one another and no accidental rub marks caused by the brush.
I’m in love with your videos. I’m getting ready to start s new small frag tank and I just live a little outside of Kansas City mo!
WOW, truly WOW!
Hi, nice work. Where do u find the top in plexiglas ? I have cats and impossible to have a system for my fluval m90
You may have been able to use that filter. Just DONT use the pipe that attaches to the inlet, leave it open and just wrap a net with a zip tie to protect fish from being sucked in. I did the same with an aqua clear. I used the same netting thats used for diy net screen tops.
I'm thinking about getting the same light. How has your experience personally been with the light so far? is it worth the price?
I love your videos!!!
Have you tried plastic dip for paint? It would be easy to remove as well if you would want to at some point
Can you use anything on back filter for a saltwater tank
Perfect useful video
For Intake pipe you can remove the intake pipe and cut the pipe 3 inches using hot knife for clean cut and attach back

What did you use to transfer your mixed saltwater into the tank?
Omg when he dropped the rock on the glass bottom.
Lol in my country we need chillers which cost around 300 or 500 if you include canister
I like that you did this to show that it CAN be done relatively cheaply. There is way too many people that like to say "too expensive", "empty your wallet" etc...yes it can be very expensive but it doesn't HAVE TO be.
Hi. Afyer the set up, How many days before you started running the hob filter? How many days did you have the water cycled first?
you can also use plasti dip to paint the tank and its rubber paint so it can be easily removed
Everyone should get a waterfall flow filter there much quieter and your fish will love it

You didn’t let that first pump flow long enough. I have the same one. At first it was loud but after a couple days I honestly can’t even hear it anymore. The slimmer on is another story. But I just leave it on when I’m not home. Got it on a 10 gallon nano and wanted some extra umph. I wouldn’t discount that filter though. Works great when broken in.
Can you glue the rock? For example if you plan on growing coral off it?
I need to get back into the hobby.
hi , little late here but what other filter do you recommend that has a protein skimmer that won't break the bank for a 55 Gal Tank ? thanks
sand is always added after the rock . if your sand shifting will cause your rock to slide and possible fall
can the filter intake tube be cut at all to not touch the bottom of the tank?
“Title text here”
Might need this later thx
An easier way to paint an aquarium would be to cover all the sides except for the one you want to paint and then go over it with spray paint. This technique only needs about two layers of paint and it leaves a better finish.

A few little clown fish and a couple of Hermite clowns with some small corals would be great in a tank that size.
