How To Set Up A New Acetylene Torch

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

These regulators do not have built in flash arrestors, the torch does. I have since added them to the regulators. Also, wear cotton clothing for fire prevention.
A step-by-step walkthrough on how to set up a brand new acetylene torch from start to finish. As well as some settings, safety tips, and how to light your new torch.

Appreciate your careful warnings like vertical transport & storage of high pressure acetylene & oxygen tank. A sniff test and soap & water spray-on should detect any leak.

Anyone else notice everything is backward? Must have been filmed with a cell phone.

You're 100 percent correct. I filmed this with my phone in selfie mode before I had software that could flip a recorded image. Videography isn't one of my strong suits. :)

It's likely going to be beginners watching this film. This film should be taken down ASAP for the safety of those personnel. The reversal confuses critical steps where errors can truly be terrible.

There's a serious no to 1 issue with it acetylene is never to apply any oil on the brass joints as acetylene will explode and burn were you applied oil to Another thing I noticed is that your video is mirrored and all your right-hand treads appear to be left-handed when you close the bottles you were closing the opposite direction and when fitting all those connections

yes you are 100% correct, never use oil. This video was taken partially in selfie mode. I was still learning how to make decent videos.

Other videos that I have seen say that it is important to turn the flame off, to first turn off the oxygen (top knob). You turned it off with the acetylene knob first. Which is correct?

Good question. This is probably one of those situations where other people were just taught different methods .And everyone thinks their method is the best. This is a pretty common phenomenon in manufacturing. I did attend welding school, and they specifically teach an oxy fuel lab. Both in that class and on the farm where I grew up, I was told to shut off the acetylene knob when killing my flame.

I'm afraid without some more context I can't be much help. Did you have regulators attached to your tank?

  • @rizadad
    @rizadadАй бұрын

I’ve watched several other set up videos. Absolutely everyone says the oxygen tank vale has to be open all the way due to the valve design. ( yes the main valve, not pressure ). Also everything in your video is mirrored which will make it very difficult for a rookie to fully grasp your actions.

This was one of my first videos, and yes it's a bit rough. I've learned a lot since then. As far as the oxygen valve is concerned, that's directly from the tank supplier. Thank for watching.

Great vid minus the really absent communication on the acetylene flame requirements. Once ignited, he 'should' have communicated the 'type' of flame from a soot level to minimum soot level PRIOR to even moving on to adjusting oxy levels. Anyways, good vid, just missing critical end point values for a proper head flame.

Fair enough criticism. I was still pretty green at making videos when I made this one. It leaves a lot to be desired.

@@steelforestweldingandforge I would offer to suggest to correct the video by putting a small segment IN there as an overlay to that specific criteria. Otherwise, I believe it was a very useful video!

You don't stick wrench into cap to open . You tap on cap by threads this will make it so cap will unscrew easy. Always shut oxygen off first.

  • @steelforestweldingandforge

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by sticking a wench into cap. But no, always shut of the acetylene first. I was taught this in welding school and every welder I know shuts down a torch by turning off the acetylene first, then the oxygen.

  • @LXBACK

I understand where you are coming from. This is definitely not a tool for the inexperienced to simply pick up and try. At the same time, welding school only taught us how to use a torch. Not set one up from scratch.
