The Bullet Journal was designed to be simple and minimal. Don't think you have to make it a fancy art project to be effective. Start with the daily log, set a weekly goal, and get to it. That's all :)

This is my 3rd year of using a bullet journal and from the start, I realized the difference between a useful planner/journal and a creative artistic hobby. This video is great because a lot of people get hung up on the latter when it doesn’t suit them. It can be a creative hobby, but doesn’t have to be to be useful. Those are 2 different goals. My bujo is strictly utilitarian and has helped my life. My creativity is focused elsewhere.

Thanks you for your focus on minimal but not insignificant. I don't mind an occasional sticker, or a color code. But the vast majority of tutorials on YT are art classes with planning a distant overthought. Your style is calming in a different way.

Yes! Thank you for reminding us why we BuJo in the first place... to be more productive. I've been bullet journaling for two years and at the start of every year, I like to get some fresh ideas. It is easy to get bogged down in beautiful, time-wasting spreads. Sometimes the best idea is "back to basics". BTW I love the calendar spread. It is just like mine, first day of the week is Monday and Sat/Sun are together in a single block. Mon - Sun is how my brain works but so many calendars/planners are set up Sunday first. On my future log, I write the dates in a single column (ie. 1-31) and then rather than writing each day of the week (M-S) I just underline Sunday's date to indicate the end of the week and then use a colored pencil to color over Sat/Sun. I also like to use colored pencils to highlight completed tasks especially when the list gets really long. I used to find myself reading and re-reading the same list of tasks, half of them already completed. It was very overwhelming. The little X just wasn't doing it for me. Now my brain "ignores" the colored items and goes to the white space.

I think its important how you mention it really does not have to be fancy. You can get demotivated with all the really aesthetic journals out there. Great pointers, I'll have to give this another chance and practice my daily log. I use the habit rabbit app right now which helps me with my little goals but I hope to expand to bigger goals like you said. Thanks for the tips

Wow your setup is so good, I think I have finally found a minimalist system that will actually work and doesn't take ages to set up or carry out!!! The only issue I have when journalling is that if important information is on multiple pages I always forget to flip back between pages and never do it so info and prompts get missed and not read, do you have any reminder tips or do I just need to not be as forgetful haha, thanks again great video

Great total beginner starter! I've watched a bunch of your videos - they are so useful as I transition into a more block-time approach and moving from a digital system (zen-kit) to a written system. I literally created by daily - weekly - monthly spreads as you walked us through each step. The P - Protect your time - is where I need lots of help (dissertation deadline!). Which video goes into the GAP method? - I can't tell from the list above.

In my monthly log for a long time, I use as a single character for the days of the week: M T W R F S U. I do not remember from who I took those abbreviations but I like the fact that each letter is unique and so no risk of being confused if I don't see the previous one like with S for Saturday and S for Sunday.
