Hey great video, but I have a question! What if you use smart hdr and set auto exposure then adjust it in the post? Like on the iPhone stock photos app you can edit exposure, highlights, and shadows separately or you can just download Adobe Lightroom and do the same thing. I tried to turn off smart hdr and decrease exposure and take a shot, then turned on smart hdr and put auto exposure and let iPhone do the work, then I edited the photo in Lightroom and I got the same results. Also, you can use photoshop to blend 3 photos, one over-exposed, one underexposed, and one perfectly exposed, and then combine them and match the exact exposure that you want, basically creating an hdr effect manually.

@@Shawn.ShooterSmart HDR doesn't always activate HDR, only when the conditions trigger it. Furthermore, it's always best to try and get the best exposure in the field as it makes a better quality image than trying to adjust it while editing. If you want to change the exposure after the fact, it's best to be using the ProRAW file format but bear in mind this takes up a lot of space. For more videos on how to get the best photos, including a bonus editing module, have a look at the iPhone Photo Academy course. Here’s the link to read more and sign up: iphone.to/ipa-a

Thanks for the video. I have an iPhone 8, and HDR is turned on. I was trying to take photos of the leaves of trees changing in autumn. If I set the exposure on the tree, the tree looked good, but the blue sky behind it turned white. I believe that the sky was much brighter than the tree was. If I set the exposure on the sky, the sky turned blue but the tree became too dark. I was wondering if there is a way to prevent that on the iPhone 8 or would I need to use software to adjust the photo afterwards?
@iPhone_Photography_School
Жыл бұрын
That is a common issue. The camera sensor cannot capture light the same way we do with our eyes. If you want to capture both the bright blue sky and the tree, the best will be to take two photos, one with the exposure set on the tree and the other on the sky. You can use apps or software like photoshop to merge the images in a few clicks.

If you're using an older iPhone model and have HDR switched on, we recommend you also have Keep Normal Photo switched on to ensure that you have a back-up if the HDR photo comes out blurry. If you’d like to further improve your iPhone photography skills, our iPhone Photo Academy course is perfect for you. Here’s the link to join: iphone.to/ipa-a
