The gouges on the armature are made during the manufacturing process as part of the balancing process. You can either add weight (a little like they do when wheel balancing) or take some off.

Grooves in the rotor will be for balancing.

Thanks mate! There really isn’t much to them, that hardest part was remembering how all the gears went back together 🤦🏼‍♂️ I’d recommend taking a photo just so you know it’s going back in properly.... I had a comment off a fella and he said the grooves are for balancing the motor🤘
