After going through so deep water we experienced so belt slip so we decided it was a good time to take a look.

Glad i came across this video. Taking the front passenger seat out it super easy. Due to my RV Cabinet sticking out 17 inches i now have to find a video of the upper roll bar being taken off. Lots of good info. "Thanx Fer Sharin"

I have the same machine, only 2900 miles on it, the belt exploded with a loud screech and a bang. I've never swamped it or taken it into water, only gravel roads and snow. I was never told I needed to do sheave/belt service but have faithfully kept up on all other maintenance. The "10 year belt warranty" was a huge selling point for me when purchasing this machine. I've been a Yamaha owner/rider since the late 70's. I am now extremely disappointed to say the least. If I go the warranty route by taking it to the dealer, it will be over a month before I can drive it again. I cannot wait that long. I asked the dealer service person if this is now becoming a known issue with these and his answer was "Well, let's just say there's a reason for the warranty". Again, this makes me very unhappy. After doing hours of research, I have now decided I will do the repairs myself and upgrade to the HunterWorks sheave and also add the dust blow out tube to the cover. I will do whatever modifications that are needed to make it as simple as possible to access the belt as others have done so I do not have to disassemble half of the machine to get to it because that is simply ridiculous! I feel lied to by Yamaha's "10 year belt warranty" because although the belt itself is "covered" by the warranty, I was told by the service person that if anything else needs to be repaired because of the belt exploding, that cost would come out of my pocket which is again ridiculous! Who can wait weeks or months to get their machine repaired??? Not me. Yamaha, you've bit the big one on this issue and should be forced to make amends to all of us who were duped by your false assertions.

You just need to service it every 1300 to 1500 miles. It's a way better system than Polaris or Can-Am. Polaris or Can-Am will explode on the trail and either have you do it on the trail or get towed out. With Yamaha service intervals you can pick a time that suits you preferably in your off-season of riding to do your service maintenance. There will be no issues with the CVT clutch system if you do these simple things during the required service recommendation time limit. You wouldn't even have to buy new seals and o-rings and probably wouldn't have to buy the rollers if you do it soon enough. All you would need is some new grease and a little bit of your time

when I service my belt i only remove the driver side door, seat ,and the panels around the driver door. you do not need to remove anything on the passenger side. The center cowl and the roll bars do not need to come out either. I have over 11000 miles on my 2020 wolverine and the first 6000 miles were done in the first season i owned it. This was the first SXS i ever owned and i was not aware of the 1500 mile clutch service. It cost me a new secondary clutch. It was Over a thousand dollars in repairs after purchasing a new secondary clutch and a new belt. These repairs I did myself along with the Hunterworks greasless sheave. If I had to add labor to that thousand it would have probably doubled. So, after doing the service a half dozen times I can get to the clutches in about 30/45 minutes if im feeling motivated. I can clean my clutches and reassemble everything in probably a few hours. Dont cheap out the secondary needs to be taken apart cleaned and regreased with Tink seal. Inspect the spring cup , spring , pins and pin holes. sometimes the cracks in the spring cup can be hard to see. Dont use cheap grease it wont last. I added an air nozzle to the housing of the CVT to blow compressed air into the greasless sheave to keep dust out or i get belt buck.

Center console can stay. Remove the sear support frame as it'll make life easier. Check your ducting joints, many RTV them. O2 sensor safe is preferred. Should've went ahead and serviced both sheaves since you had it apart, every 1600 miles.

I’ve heard this service the sheaves what does that mean and what do you need to do? I’m on the fence for pioneer or wolverine but I keep being scared of the wolverine in the building having to do maintenance pioneers pretty much shaft drive maintenance free.

@@twig7105 All SXS's that have a belt system between the motor and transmission need serviced according to manufacturer recommendations. I think the X2/X4 is pretty simple myself compared to other systems and Yamaha recommends a inspection every 1600 miles IIRC. Do a youtube search 'x2 sheave service'. Some do the service themselves and others take to a dealer to service.

Am I crazy in thinking of not buying a Yamaha due to the work it takes to get to the belt? Are they that reliable that this is something not to worry about? Obviously, you can not fix a belt on the trail....

I think the fact that Yamaha will warranty the belt for 10 years as part of the factory warranty says it all. Polaris & Can-am machines belts are really easy to get to because they know that with their design belts just won't last long enough to put any amount of warranty on them. In fact, you can go out in the parking lot & utterly destroy the other competitor belts in seconds. That being said, I do wish that the belt was a bit easier to get to. In short, yes you would be crazy to not purchase a Yamaha for this reason alone.
