How to Service a Zebco 33 Classic
This is an older Zebco 33, made in USA. Called the 33 Classic, it is a one ball bearing, Feather Touch Cast Control. Carbon Fiber reinforced plastic frame with stainless steel covers.
One of my all time favorite Zebco 33s.

Thanks Matthew!!!
Just found my old 33 classic my granny bought me from deseret industries when I was a little kid! I’m going to clean it up this weekend and go fishing! Thanks for the info on how to properly maintain it!
So glad I found you.
For me, this is the best reel ever made. I own a few as I thought zebco would discontinued the 33. I also own the 77 for bigger fish. These reels have served me for years without flaw.
The classic feather touch is my favorite 33 model. Second favorite is definitely the old spinner models. They're just so easy to work on and last so well.
Great video! I have quite a few older Zebco reels to include this one. I agree with what you said about the old plastic becoming brittle. I have a couple of good reels that the “foot” has broken off. To remedy this I fill the gaps in the plastic foot with “JB”weld then smooth it out across the whole foot with a popsicle type stick. None of the ones I have done like this have broken-
I bought one of these new in about 1984, and it is still the 1st rig that goes into the boat. Number 2 is a Zebco UL4 triggerspin of the same vintage. Number 3 is a 1967 Mitchell 300 on a 1968 Fenwick "Chocolate" spinnig rod. I have never had a single issue with teh Zebcos whatsoever. The're not fast retrievers, but I can put a lure anywhere I desire with the feather touch control.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Very informative!
Awesome video brother
Thank you. I found out this garage sale reel is missing parts
Thank you for sharing!
Good morning Matthew,
Thanks for the great video. I'm trying to restore one of these reels and I'm have trouble removing the steel bushing as you mentioned. I've been soaking it with penetrating oil for a couple of days now and still have very little movement. What did you do to get it out? Thanks.
Hey, great video! I just inherited one and need the orange rubber ring that acts as a brake as it seems its deteriorated over time. Any clue where to find one? Keep the videos coming! Thanks!
Thanks Matthew!! I have one of these and a One Classic. Both have the Feather Touch Control feature. I tried to research the One Classic, through Zebco, but after a couple of e-mails, it was obvious that Zebco had zero info about the One Classic. Both reels are very similar. and thanks to this video, I was able to figure out what was wrong with the anti-reverse on the One Classic (I had a brain spasm and didn't put the "actuator" back in the slot on the AR.) Both reels are now functioning much better.
Great video!! How would you recommend cleaning the graphite on this reel? I picked one up that has some staining. Thanks!!
I'm a big fan of Zebco and Johnson reels. I Inherited from Grandpa several decades ago. Never needed anything more to fish local ponds.
Hi, I got myself on of these 33 Classic Ball Bearing from e-ba... and the yellow donut on the spinnerhead broke apart in the fist couple of casts after servicing it. If I may ask, how can I get a replacement or who can I make one myself ? Thank you for all of your great videos.
Hey Matthew, I just lost the nut that screws onto the handle off my Zebco 33 classic feather touch. Not the tiny screw, but the nut to screw in the handle. Do know what the name of that Parr and where to buy it ? Thanks.
Quite a few differences from the authentic. I supertuned a chinese made authentic after watching your videos.
