    It sounds like you have a feedback loop. This will happen regardless of the speakers. Basically: The speakers are too close to your microphone. The microphone is amplifying the speakers, which are amplifying the microphone. To get cleaner sound I would google "How to prevent audio feedback" and that will give you some tips on preventing the "whistling" that you're describing. Either that or you might just have a really bad reverb effect. No matter what is causing it, I don't think it has anything to do with the physical size of your speaker.

  • @kettnercreative

    The 15" DXR speakers don't make a lot of sense to us. For DXR you're paying a premium to have all of those inputs on the back of the speaker. When you're in the 15" range, you should be using a mixer with XLR output and the extra $200 to get DSR is worth it. Once you hit 15", you really should be using a full wood cabinet - In my opinion.

    We use 2 DXR12's and a DSR15 sub for band performanced up to around that 100 people. Does not leave a load of headroom but it certainly works very well. In my opinion I would only use de DBR's as monitors since they just don't sound good enough for front of house. The DSR sound even better but it is not a necessitiy. This is not true, although you are crossing the speakers over, the larger speaker gives a fuller sound. I own the Yamaha dxr15’s and the dxr10’s and I like the sound of the 15’s more even if I am crossing it over. Also all of the Dxr series speakers have the same coverage 90 x 60.

    It depends on the music and nature of the event of course, but say recorded music or 4 piece rock bands and audiences of between 700 and 1500. Given enough subs, where would the extra low mid power of double 15s be advantageous over single 15s? It seems it may in such a case? Also, it seems to me if you can run the double 15s loud enough and they're not limiting in full range mode, and they're standing on the subs, why not? You'll get more low end and may actually require one less 18inch driver in your sub stack.. Because the bottom 15 inch driver will couple with the sub drivers beneath it if they're that close right?

  • @kettnercreative

    @kettnercreative

    7 жыл бұрын

    I think you would be better off with 4xDSR115 and 4xDXS18 if you're wanting an event that size. Even then, you may be a little underpowered. The advantages to having more speakers: - More portable - Easier to splay for even coverage Once you get up to 750-1000 people outdoor, you really are getting into line array territory and will be much better off having an array in the air. Ground supported solutions only work well for up to 500 people outdoor or 1000 indoor.

  • @VoortVlugtend

    @VoortVlugtend

    7 жыл бұрын

    But won't more single sources per side lead to unhealthy levels of comb filtering? These are indeed 90 degree dispersion boxes... If you had to double up and go for ultimate power what about 2x DSR215s per side (Ive seen lots of companies running the SRX725s in this way as super powerful ground stack systems).. that's why the interest in the DSR215s for that extra amount of low mids. Cause that is the frequency that will probably be most underrated with the single 115s, right?

  • @kettnercreative

    @kettnercreative

    7 жыл бұрын

    You won't get comb filtering if you splay the boxes properly. You will get much wider coverage which is what you want for events like this. Use the extra boxes to your advantage. You can do what you want, but I wouldn't recommend the 215s. If you go with my suggestion you can split your PA into two smaller stages for different events. They're much easier to transport, and will give you better flexibility of running two of the speakers as delays if you wish.

    In my opinion, once you go to 15" speakers, you should be going to a full wood box.

    at your home I'd recommend a 18' subwoofer and 2x 15" speakers

    I think that would be plenty, bonus points if you have budget for a subwoofer.

    I had a demo of these and I must say I wasn't too impressed with the volume or quality. I had high expectation from Yamaha..

    I've got the DXR 12s and I've never had any trouble with volume at gigs, plenty loud if you want them to be.
