This is a helpful trick. Thanks for sharing.
You can do something very similar in Lightroom. Make a Luminance range mask and drag the sliders of the box, left and right, until you have the desired mask. Fuzziness is created by dragging the small triangels below the box Then do what you like to the masked area, brighten, sharpen aso.
SO Helpful! I used to have a process using levels and layer masks in groups which was incredibly annoying to finely control specific tones in Black and White film scans (especially for recovering flat under-developed film). I will just be doing this for now on.
Thanks so much this demonstration. What a useful technique! Kind of a simplified luminosity mask...
That is wonderful! Thank you for your time and dedication on helping educate people like me.
Thank YOU. I can see this being very useful in my work.
Great tutorial,thank you
Another great video, would be informative to discuss actions and how they can be used to create the luminosity masks.
Good video thanks
Thanks!

Thank you Alberto!
Nice, th!
Is there a way to do this in photoshop where it is able to figure out where in my photo reference has mid tones, shadows, or highlights? I do not shoot photography, but I am trying to learn where all three are placed on whatever photo I am wanting to draw? 😢😭
Again this demonstrates why even as an Adobe Photography Plan subscriber I never go into PS even though its available to me, choosing to do as much as I can on my photos in LRC. Everything in PS is complicated and non intuitive as far as I`m concerned.
You sound like Stephen Hawkins if he didn't have to talk through a computer
