    Each amp is designed for a particular impedance speaker. If your amp uses a 4 Ohm speaker, you will likely want to continue using a 4 Ohm speaker. There are some amps that can use multiple impedance speakers, and those would be the main exception.

    I have a Blackstar ID260 2x12 Combo amp and was wanting to build myself another 2x12 speaker cabinet for the smaller space I live in. My home studio area is VERY small and a 4X12 cabinet is too large for my space since my amp actually sits in my closet. Its also about 4" too wide. Anyway I was wondering what are some good speakers to go along with it? I have not opened it up to see what speakers are inside it to void my warranty., but the amp on the outside says 300watts and its 4ohms. I seen your video on how to convert 2 8ohm speakers to 4 ohms. But what wattage would I select so the amp doesn't blow them or cause damage?

    Hi Justin I have a simple question that might be easy for you to answering. I have 2 speakers 15 inches connected in parallel making both speakers work as 4 Ohms. They are 300RMS and I like to know how much power amplifier is suggested to get to make this 2 speakers perfectly loud, clear and without blowing either the speakers or the amp. I been watching your videos and seems to be that you are an expertise in the matter. Downside for me is that the speakers that I have they don’t have a label at all but I found out that they are 300watts in RMS mode. Hope you can help me here because I am so lost and I don’t want buy something that I might not need or something that might get wrong setting for the speakers and amp. Thanks in advance

    2:45 - Here you are saying to double the wattage of the speaker as compare to the wattage of the amp. I feel the same way. I was looking to replace the Made in China Celestion speaker on a Monoprice/Harley Benton 15 watt tube amp. There's the blue Celestion 8 ohm 15 watt speaker, but that's like $320.00 each !!! There were others like 60 watt rated, would that be too much for a 15 watt amp or what would you recommend? I'm more concerned with the sound and not the price. Thanks for a great informative video, we need more content like this on KZread.

The Marshall does have a rotary dial on the back to switch from 8, 16 ohm. • @amplifiedparts

    @amplifiedparts

    Theoretically, yes, but the potential for damaging the speaker is much higher as the power rating could be accidentally switched. Using the 20W amp in question, we would still advise a 40W speaker.

    When matching an amp head to a speaker in one of your videos you said the speaker should be able to handle about double the wattage of the amp. Would a 25 watt amp head be able to drive a speaker rated at 150 watts? I wasn’t sure if there was a certain amount of wattage needed to drive the speaker properly.

  • @amplifiedparts

    @amplifiedparts

    Жыл бұрын

    The speaker wattage recommendation is a loose rule to ensure that the speaker will not be damaged at the amplifier's full power. There isn't a minimum rating required to "drive" a speaker, it simply may not be driven as hard with a lower wattage amplifier.

    The wattage rating applied to a speaker only references the maximum wattage that the speaker can safely run through it, so a 30W speaker would likely be sufficient for your application, however, there is no limit for the wattage rating of a speaker in any application.

    Regarding the spreading of the wattage across multiple speakers, I have a question; I'm looking into getting new speakers for my old 4x10" combo, but I'm thinking of pairing two different speakers, so two of each, just to mix things up and possibly get some more character out of the amplifier. - Anyway; What would happen with the distribution if one of the two types was 30 Watts and the other say 60 Watts? Would the higher Wattage speaker be driven less and thus be quieter? Or would it somehow even out? (The amplifier is 100 Watts, by the way. Probably a real 100 Watts.) Of course there's also the efficiency, which in the case of these two speakers is a little different as well. What would happen with a few dBs of difference (which I know at that kind of loudness is a lot) in that? Would one just be underpowered or underutilized or anything like that? Thanks.

  • @amplifiedparts

    @amplifiedparts

    5 жыл бұрын

    In terms of power going through each speaker, as long as the impedances are the same and the wiring configuration is series, parallel, or the standard series-parallel, the speakers will see the same signal. So if 100W is coming out of your amp each speaker will see 25W. Everything else about the speaker will be as it is spec'd. One type of speaker might just be louder than the other. A lot of times people will set them up in a crisscross pattern rather than side by side when using different speakers to balance out differences like that.

  • @amplifiedparts

    Because the replacement speaker is roughly 10mm deeper than the original, it should still have sufficient space if the max is approximately 250mm. The only suggestion we can offer is to make sure there aren't any components such as tubes or transformers that are very close to the stock speaker that may present a problem with the larger option.

    Will my amp distort latter if I put higher wattage speaker in there? For example If I go from Greenback to Alnico Gold?

  • @amplifiedparts

    @amplifiedparts

    5 жыл бұрын

    Sometimes. It depends on the amp and the speaker you're looking to swap out. Speaker distortion is definitely a thing but typically most of the distortion in a tube amp is in the preamp and sometimes the power amp. The speaker has to be pushed into distortion which is usually at higher volumes. Old speakers can get warped or worn out in areas of the cone which can distort at lower volumes. If you have something like an 18W amp going into a single greenback which is 25W, there's a good chance that you can push that speaker into distortion. Upgrading to a 50W speaker like an alnico gold will likely improve that but be sure that you like the sound of that speaker at all volumes before making a decision. I don't think you can go wrong with an alnico gold though!

But also thinking about putting Electro Harmonix 12vr speakers in it. (75 watt speakers) any thoughts? Or just bite the bullet and do Celestion v30s or warehouse veteran 30s. 8 play metal almost exclusively. Greenbacks or Creambacks? Theese are some thoughts. 8f I do the 12vr speakers Im making a 300 watt cab for a 100 watt head. Would appreciate anybody's thoughts

  • @amplifiedparts

    @amplifiedparts

    2 жыл бұрын

    The Fender Champion 100 uses two 12" speakers and the amp itself is rated at 100W. The Jensen C12K has a 12" diameter and are rated at 100W each, so two of them would be a great option for that amp. Speaker mounting holes are standardized, so the mounting screws should line up with just about any 12" speaker on the market.

  • @amplifiedparts

    @amplifiedparts

    2 жыл бұрын

    The diameter of a speaker does not have bearing on the volume it is capable of producing. The "sensitivity level" of a speaker would indicate how "loud" it can get, so a 10" speaker with a high sensitivity could be equal in volume to a 12" with the same sensitivity level.

    Appreciate the talk but one major correction: you need 1.5 to 2 times more power in your amplifier than your speaker watt. So, for a speaker of 100 watts you should get an amp with 150 to 200 watts per channel out put. Not the other way round.

    After a few " experts" were trying to fix my little tube amp , I've decided to do it myself, so the speaker in my ac4tv didn't sound right, the first expert changed the speaker, sounded ok for a while , then it didn't ( I've replaced the tubes ) . When i opened the amp, guess what ? I have an 16 ohm amp , and the expert mounted the 4 ohm speaker to it... Then the other expert told he this was incorrect , which it is , and mounted the old speaker back. I've tried the the amp again with the old speaker but i was outside with lots of cars coming through ,And near the children's park, so I couldn't hear well, came home , mounted the amp, and the first problem appeared again... This happens only after the amp is on for sometime , since it is a tube amp. Now I've only wanted to know since this is a 4 Watt amp, is the g10 30w ( 16ohms) good enough ... According to this video 4x2 is 16 so 30 would be enough i presume... I was worried because the original spekers was 50 watts, but according to this video i think it's ok. Funny thing with hi Fi sistem the amp needs to be 50% more powerful then the speaks .... I just hope I'm right because this g10 will set me back a 120 euros ... And the other guy has massured with his instruments that there are no signals distortions coming from the amp itself ... I have 3 guitars so the guitar isn't a problem ( same "bad" sounds are coming from all of them ) on the other amp that i have guitars and amp sounds as it should .... I'm just writing this is someone is having the same problems as me. Informative video this is and i thank you for it..

    Question you said 100 watts amps , with 2x12 would distribute 50watts of power to each spekaer , and then you said you need to double it and have 200 watts speakers ? 50x2 would be 100 watts each ( combined 200 watts ) , So am I getting this right? If we use 4x12 speak cabinet on the 100 watts amp, than in the cabinet we would need to have 4x50 watts minum ? ( With the right impedance , and size )

Except for the fuse housing, the previous owner ,or pawn shop tech tried to rig it with a smaller fuse back (screw-in connection)cylinder that holds a t2a fuse. The housing itself is larger, so needless to say, the actual fuse is too small to make contact on both ends. I replaced the entire fuse holder (and power switch) with the correct housing that fits the T2a fuse, still blows when turned on. I gave up, but it was only $18. Any ideas or suggestions how to fix? I'm definitely open for options as this has become an obsessive project at this point Lol
