Been dating a Cancer for 4 years, my advice is honestly very simple. Be understanding, not judgmental. Be there for them and make them feel safe. Even if they try denying it reassuring them really does help. If you’ve just met them then don’t come off too strong unless they show that they’re truly interested in you. Understand that they may be moody. Don’t take it too personal, it’s just how they are. If you’re too self entitled, one sided, stubborn, careless, lazy, or can’t be understanding and show love then Cancer definitely isn’t the one for you. Oh yeah I almost forgot. Don’t pressure or rush them! They will go back in their shell and sometimes might not come back out.

Cancer does require patience and emotional reassurance, and they'll return it in vast quantities. But .. Cancer is pure, raw emotion, and if they don't find a constructive way to deal with their OWN and other's negative emotional energy .. then Cancer becomes insecure, introverted and a "the world is against me" vibe. Once Cancer masters their own emotional balance, they tend to become extremely self confident, nurturing, and a solid friend. I can’t tell if a cancer man I’m interested in is shy, as you described, or if he’s just disinterested. When we are together he is extremely loving and I’ve seen him slowly come out of his shell. I know it's not a romantic relationship, but I have a cancer moon and my dad has a cancer sun. I live a few states away but we don't call each other as often as you'd think. We're intuitive, so we know that we care for each other and don't need meaningless chatting to prove it. I can't imagine it's that different with romantic relationships (I've never dated a cancer guy but I doubt I'm that far off.) If he doesn't like you, trust me you wouldn't be able to get through to him at all. If my dad didn't like someone or if I don't like someone, we shut them out.

One of my best friends is a cancer and her and I seriously never talk unless in person. When I see her though she’s like “meet your Aunty” to her kids and once she said “just remember we are connected. There are particles of air between us but we are always connected.” Which I loved. :) hope that helps!

Carmen Taylor I dated a cancer Sun, Cancer rising, cancer mercury, Moon in Aquarius. Oh waaah. Hot cold hot cold hot cold. The energy is incompatible. I found cancer is overbearingly emotional and Aquarius likes that emotional detachment. Then again, when you say “I’m Aquarius and my man is Cancer” says nothing. If your m cancer man has an Aquarius or Gemini Moon or if the Aquarian has a Cancer Venus or a Pisces Moon, then obviously there will be more compatibility. But just simply cancer energy and needs and Aquarius energy and needs are not very compatible.
