Thanks, this was helpful :) I just started some dreadlocks in the underneath of my hair, parted in a straight horizontal line from the top of one ear to the other. I wasnt liking that it felt like I had a thicker amount of straight hair over the sides of my head, with less over the back side. Parting in a circle is a great idea! I'm going too try to merge that with my straight part somehow.

The professional comment was truth! 👍 That's exactly what I'm going through. I am trying to find a solution for how I can "hide" my dreads while I'm starting them. I have done one bottom, so basically I have an undercut of dreads. I would do them myself or at least that is a plan but I'm thinking how it's going to look like in between. It would take me much longer then a day to do them all myself so I might just have to pay to get them done 😢 we will see.

Yes I did it by myself. I parted the sections and secured them with elastics first to make sure I liked the placement and then I dreaded one at a time using 2 mirrors to see behind my head.

Hello! Well this is a first for me, no one has ever expressed anything like this toward me before. I do not feel dreads on Caucasian hair is racist at all, to what culture do you feel this is a display of racism? We all have our own history and cultures and are definitely entitled to our own opinions ♥️ I personally think dreads on any woman no matter our race are a strong stance of strength, spirituality, and beauty. The reason why I feel white people wearing dreadlocks is not cultural appropriation is due to the fact that dreadlocks have been around for thousands of years in many different societies and cultures all over the world also in European countries. Many people don’t know that Dreadlocks predate Rastafarianism! However the term “dreadlocks” does come from the culture but the name does not hold as much importance as the style. The significance and meaning of wearing locs does vary from culture to culture but with so many societies and cultures being known for having worn dreads it is very difficult for one group to claim them as theirs. Egyptian mummies that were recovered with dreadlocks still in tact were the first archaeological evidence that dreadlocks even existed. But Vikings, Germans, and Celts were also known to wear their hair in dreadlocks as well. They have also been worn by Nazarites of Judaism, the Sadhus of Hinduism, the Dervishes of Islam, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Australians, Pacific Islanders, the Aborigines, the New Guineans, the Somali, the Galla, the Maasai, the Ashanti, the Fulani tribes of Africa, and many others. Even Sampson, an early Christian of the bible was said to have had seven locks of hair to which he felt held his power. Cultural appropriation by definition involves the exploitation of a culture of less privileged groups by members of a more dominant group. Groups often targeted for cultural appropriation do tend to be African Americans, Native Americans, and Asian Americans. If you must know my great grandfather was 100% Cherokee Indian but I personally do not feel my race or coloring plays any role or should allow for any discrimination against how I choose to style my hair. However, the minority is becoming more Caucasian as races mix and racism is less and less prominent in this day in age. That all being said I can only speak for myself of course and say I am a proud dread head for all the cultures before my time and I have lived my journey for myself alone and I will continue to share my journey as it also brings joy to my life! 💗 I wish you all the best and would love to chat with you! Do you have dreads? What are your thoughts and reasons, I’d love to know as I love learning and speaking with all my watchers, my Instagram is listed in the description 💕 feel free to reach out -xx Holly

@@holly_holismnot sure what your background is but vikings did NOT wear dreadlocks/matte locks ! Also, “vikings” were an occupation. Not a race. Im Celtic and while we did have matte locks (which is what you should be calling them. not dreads or dreadlocks) we DIDNT keep them in our hair all over our head, our hair would rub and matte in our sleep because of the curls knotting together and we used to think it was the fae playing with our hair (the fae are NOT good.)

@@holly_holismMy mother is Native american and Celtic and My father is a full native american man, and in my tribes personally we wore matte locks (we called them hair rolls) for centuries. Our thick course hair matted easily and back then we didn’t have brushes so it came naturally and we embraced it. I just finished my whole head of hair rolls to honor my family and ancestors. I don’t think it’s “wrong” for you to wear matte locks, but i do think you should have done some deep research and found/used the right term for what they’re called and why the name behind “dreadlocks” can be harmful to a lot of black people. You have matte locks, not just “locs/locks” because your hair doesn’t “lock” like coily hair does, it mattes!
