Kind of misleading to not tell people that this won't record Zoom's internal audio in/out signal vs the mic and speakers on your laptop. Everyone who watches this is going to be in a for a rude surprise when they realize they've recorded the video of the screen recording with tinny laptop speaker audio of the remote zoom participants but not the actual Zoom audio you'd normally hear on a Zoom call.

For those complaining about not being able to record audio with video on quick time player, when you turn on the screen recording, the screen recording panel appears, right next to the Record button is an arrow..... press that arrow and you can choose a mic to record. At least at the companies I work with, one is expected to have their mic fully muted when not actually actively speaking. Does it only record the audio when unmuted? Is it possible to set up dual channel inputs?

Just make sure to turn your camera off and mute your microphone in Zoom (don't manually mute your microphone - if your microphone has a switch) or you won't have any sound from the class. I had someone fall asleep on a Zoom call I was doing once... he even started snoring!

Just be sure to have your speakers and microphone on - it can't record the "computer audio" for some reason.

I'm sure it the complication with sound recording. You need to play with your speakers - its not internal.

What if you use the screen record option on a Mac?? Control Shift 5? Will they be notified?

Okay so I made the error of not making sure the mic feature was on in my recording (which I didn't know I had to do) so now I have a 1.5 hr recording with no sound. Make sure you don't make this mistake, I was super frustrated afterwards. Also if anyone knows how to magically recover the sound, please help a girl out!

If you want to record internal audio, then use something like blackhole (existential audio), set the audio output to blackhole instead of headphones or speakers, then start the recording with quicktime.

You need to turn up the volume and have your microphone record what's coming out of your computer speakers. There is a better way, but I've found it way too complicated...

The sound is recorded through the microphone on your computer, so the microphone needs to hear all the audio. If you use headphones, the microphone can't hear anything. Any speakers will do.

When you screen record with QuickTime player their is an arrow on the right side just tap on it and it will show you a menu. On that menu their is a part about the microphone.

I faced this issue but here is the solution to it. After selecting "New Screen Recording" > click on the "options" under the Quicktime overlay screen to set your audio options > now make sure "None" is NOT selected under the Microphone section. You can either set to built-in/external microphone and you're all set. If you record the session now everything it will record including your voice + inside what you're capturing. 🤘

The simple way is to just turn up the volume and let your microphone record your speakers. There are some complex solutions to make it work inside the computer, but they were too complex for me :-)

Before pressing record, simply click “options” then choose your computer microphone and it’ll record the sound from from your computer’s microphone.

Hmmm... I've never had this problem. Maybe try the view dropdown menu at the top of the screen when Quicktime is running?

But the audio is not recorded alonly the video is recorded when u attend the zoom

I just did that - but like every time i have tried that, i now have a 2 hr video with no sound....

I had to plug in my headphones, because the other person was hearing too much feedback. Once plugged in, the recorder captured my audio, but not that of the other person. How do you fix that?

That's a bit complicated. There are two ways: the easy way is to get a screen recorder (like Screencast-o-matic.) Then go through the configuration to allow it access to your computer screen, sound, etc. Then use the screen recorder when you are on Zoom. The other way is to add a piece of software that "hear your computer." Soundflower can do this on a Mac. I haven't tried it, but others have said it works. I have tried the first way because I use a Screenrecorder a lot (to make videos about using software.) I use ScreenFlow on my Mac. I don't know of any easy way to do this (without pushing record in Zoom.)

Another way might be to use a USB sound card (if your Mac doesn't have a headset jack) to add another mic so that Zoom is using one mic and Quicktime is using another mic. Maybe get a little lavalier and set it directly on the speaker so you wouldn't have to blast the volume. On my work Mac I can't install other software. If you can then you have other options. I use Zoom with the Mac internal mic and speakers all the time and don't have feedback issues, but I haven't tried to record one yet or turn up the volume full blast.

Interesting. Maybe recording is turned off in your Zoom account? You could try using Screencast-o-matic which is web based software for recording.

I don't get the same screen and don't know where to find the recording later. No stop button either

You can save to an external drive after it records. The audio recorded is what's coming out your speakers and into your microphone. So you need to be quiet. You can also search for Sound Flower on Google. Then you can select that in Quicktime and record the sound directly.

@@user-fo5bl1xx9j 1. Because Quicktime doesn't let you record audio. 2. You can set which audio you want to use. 3. It's an external app which creates an virtual record device. In Quicktime you select this device. 4. No, is not possible since viewers are recording their screens and Zoom cannot detect if someone is recording their screen. Soundflower is outdated software. Best alternative is BlackHole.

I tried this with other means but it did not record the audio.. it only recorded the video.. will I get the audio too if I do it with QuickTime Player??🤔

you should be able to unless zoom has some special way of not allowing it but i doubt it. just choose the "options" that is shown here and then make the microphone the "build-in microphone". or, for the macs that don't have those options at the bottom but the little box that shows up when clicking "new screen recording", click the arrow below the record button, then you can choose the mic

Quicktime will give you a chance to save it anywhere you'd like.

I'm trying to record a Zoom meeting via HDMI to an Atomos Ninja on a Mac. The video is captured but no audio. This is only a problem recording the Zoom app. For instance, I can record any other streaming service that's on my desktop with audio, no problem.

Zoom shouldn't be able to tell what other programs are running on your computer. You could use your cell phone camera if you're worried...

If you are recording without permission from the host using the quicktime app, is there a way the host can tell you are recording the meeting?

The ZoomAudioDevice is used by Zoom to share your computer audio (like if you want to play music during the call.) You can add something called SoundFlower to your computer then choose to record that with Quicktime and that would allow you to record while wearing a headset. soundflower.en.softonic.com/mac?ex=CORE-117.0

Lol every time I join a zoom meeting or make one. If I exit the zoom app on iOS on the top bar when it says time, date and battery I see a red line and it’s says “Zoom recording” Even when I’m not recording it says that? What does that mean? Do you have any hacks for getting free transcripts from a Zoom or Quicktime? In order to enable Zoom transcripts, you have to buy a Business account which is $2,000/year. I'm trying to find a workaround - I am a one person shop, so the Zoom Business account doesn't make sense. Thanks!

Zoom will be adding free live captions by the end of 2021. You can request early access (but I think it's reserved for people catering to audiences that need this service.) I believe that live captions can be saved as transcripts. You can also go to Rev.com and buy the service for $20 per month. Or if you only need a few short videos, you can buy "rough drafts" on Rev.com. You'd upload the recorded Zoom call to Rev.com and pay by the minute. Finally, you could upload the videos to KZread and you'd get free captions. You can download those as a txt file after the video is uploaded (you can set it as unlisted or private so no one sees it.) I hope that helps!

I think it's only limited by how much hard drive space you have - a full screen recording can be lots of MegaBytes!

It's a Quicktime thing. It can record what comes out your speakers and into your microphone. Of you can install SoundCloud.

Why would anyone ever have a need to record a conf call without audio? I literally can't think of a single scenario where this would be useful.

But there will be no audio in the recording.

As soon as you plug your earphone into the system you will get an option of an external microphone inside the screen recorder app. and by selecting this option you will be able to record sound as well.

Yo you can only record the screen of zoom meeting but not the audio. Do not mislead people.

You can use your microphone to record the audio from your speakers. It's not pretty but it works.

Quicktime likes to "hide" by only showing up in the menu bar. And if you have too many things in the menu bar on the right, then it hides the stop button. Not a perfect solution, but it's free.

Does this 100% work?I used this but didn't know if they knew.i wasnt told anything though

They wouldn't know (just like they wouldn't know if you were playing Solitaire during your Zoom call.) It will record any sound on your side - them coming out your speakers and any room noises.)

I'm afraid this just didn't work for me. I enabled my microphone and the sound was still so muffled I couldn't tell what was being said. The most important part for me is sound so I can review later for notes.

Check out Soundflower. It should help you out (but I don't have it on my Mac to demo.)

@@BrightonsReviewsandMore Thanks! I looked at it, but was a bit weary based on it's 'some assembly required' look, to it. I'm a luddite when it comes to software, and Soundflower doesn't have the 'off the shelf,' no-brainer look. Thanks, though.

why when i record there is no sound?

Sorry - you need to play the sound through your speakers and record with your microphone (while being quiet.) There's not an easy way around this (there are a few somewhat complicated ways...)

I record zoom meeting but they don't have any voice ...

Before you click the record button, go to options first. Choose the "Macbook pro microphone" instead of "None". I saw some comments mentioning a third-party app to record the sounds as well (since the Macbook pro microphone" option even record not only the screen audio but also the background noise I make lol)

Thanks Trang. That's exactly right! It's not a perfect solution, but it works. I've tried 3rd party options and they are complicated. Except Screenflow. That makes it easy, but not cheap.

I tried... I don't get the audio...

What Quicktime is recording is anything your microphone hears. So it records you, and anything coming out of your speakers, and any background noise.

Does it work even if the host mutes us

It should - as long as the sound is coming out your speakers and into your computer's microphone.
