    Packing your own food in a cooler for a family/group of 4+ actually saves you quite a bit of money. You can go to a local grocery store and get stuff to make sandwiches, chips, snacks, and drinks for $20-$30. For most parks, it’ll cost a family of 4 $20 (or more) per person to eat in the park, and that’s just for one meal. For some families who are looking to save wherever possible, this is a completely legit and logical option.

    Yeah, that statement he made was ignorant and kinda elitist. There's people that want to save money. And there's some that can only really afford the park ticket. Let them do the best way to enjoy the park within their budget.

    @@Jadentheman I agree. And the movie analogy was bad because leaving a movie means you miss out on a specific part of the movie that you can never have back. But you don’t miss out on anything when leaving an amusement park. Just lose time, which you would lose anyways waiting in a long line for food.

    I posted my own comment before reading this but I agree completely. You can tell he doesn’t have a family/dependents who he has to pay for on his visits. Kings island has good food, skyline chili and that grilled cheese place that I’ll usually eat at but most parks don’t have good enough food to justify spending $200 to eat lunch and dinner there

    To be fair, I’m honestly not 100% sure if all of the parks allow you to just leave and come back 🤨 so if they don’t allow it then yeah I think it would be a waste but if they do then it’s up to the group/family to weigh the pros/cons

    We would always do the cooler trick. In the midwest the distance to parking isn't far, and even a 10 dollar charge for premier parking isn't bad compared to food cost. If you have a group over 5-6, a cooler with deli meat and cheese, and throw a roll along with it is like 15 bucks, 20-25 to feed a group of 8 or more. If the park has amazing food, sure eat it, but many the main food staples are desert anyway, and the others are usually long ass waits. So large group, it makes great sense.

    another thing about food - depending on how long you visit, just don’t buy food in the park period. As long as you eat a decent breakfast outside first (safe for your stomach too) you’re probably fine not eating until a late dinner like 7 or 8 PM. Obvs this differs from person to person but worth a try

    The cooler with food and drink is for the drive home or back at the hotel at the end of the day. Eat breakfast before you go, pack snacks, and only buy one meal in the park. If you have a bunch of kids try getting a whole pizza to share. And Disney World does have chargers for purchase, and you can swap them out for a fresh one for an added fee.

    Don’t be so negative on packing a cooler with lunch. If you have a family it’s definitely the way to go to save $.. I’ve packed a cooler multiple times, to cedar point, kings island, waldameer, Kenny wood, etc and saved a bunch of money. I’m talking about 5-7 people each time depending on how many kids I’m taking but only one of them is a toddler so 4-6 people are eating with adult sized appetites. Carowinds last year and kings dominion this year we ate in park and it was just me and my wife and our 13, 11, and 3 year old and it was so expensive at carowinds that I got dining plans for kings dominion.

    The parking lot cooler trick actually saves time in my experience, since the walk to the car generally takes less time than waiting in line at most food places. Also there’s the option to eat in the car and crank up the AC, which is great on hot days. Plus you can eat the leftovers on the way home!

  • @mattpatti390
    @mattpatti390 Жыл бұрын

    If you plan your day right, you should only need to eat one meal in the park, and can eat breakfast and dinner outside the park which will be much cheaper. Eat a nice size breakfast immediately before entering the park (I always think of the WaWa right outside Six Flags Great Adventure, that’s a go-to). Then get lunch in the park sometime late in the day (I usually eat as late as 2-4). And then when you leave the park at night, stop somewhere on the way home to eat. I do this often and only end up spending about $20 in most parks I go to. P.S. My dad always did the packing sandwiches in the cooler and exiting the park to eat in the parking lot thing and I always hated it. Takes so much time away from your day at the park!!

    You only think packing a cooler is the dumbest idea ever because you're not 21 yet. Pack a cooler and chairs, spend the money on the fast lane passes, tailgate before it opens and hit the park hard when it does, then take a tailgate break as the GP hits it's peak hour, then go back. This is how you ride 25+ rides per day with multiple hour breaks at a car

    Packing a cooler was the greatest idea, even when I was 16! My teenage years were in the heart of the recession, so my family and friends had to penny pinch wherever possible. Plus, it was back when the quality of food wasn’t at all an emphasis at parks.

    I disagree with the food quality, to a degree. Them park food at Cedar Fair parks has really been improving a lot to where I really enjoyed my meals at Cedar Point and Kings Island this last summer. Disney parks have always had excellent food options. Some are better than others, but I always felt like Disney's food is a good value when thinking of it as theme park food. I haven't been to a six flags park in about a decade, so I am not sure if they have improved.

    A few tricks I figured out when doing a universal florida trip: -Find a hotel that serves free breakfast!!!!! during a 7 day trip, you will need to feed yourself about 21 times, and when you are on vacation, you often have to dump a lot of money for every meal, so save yourself 7 meals on a hotel buffet. it usually wont be great quality, but it should hold you through the afternoon. -Stay on I-drive. sure the "official hotels" will give you a shuttle, but the resort fees will cost almost as much as you parking on site. Staying on I-drive will give you easy access to tons of shockingly cheap food, while still being really close to the parks. -I'm not a fan of ponchos, so instead, I fit a mini umbrella in my pocket throughout the day. when its super hot and sunny, you can use the umbrella to not burn, then you are set when it rains. you have to use a locker on half the intense rides anyway, so its not hard to stow away. -3rd party sites can be unbelievably cheaper. I wish I had seen the seaworld deals on undercovertourist before I bought my tickets... check and compare as many sources as possible before pulling the trigger -when in the park, it can be tempting to buy the cheapest food item just to hold you over, but you end up spending $5-$10 on every snack, when you could very easily spend $20-$25 on one big meal that will hold you through most of the day.

Why? because there's a Subway directly across from the parking lot that guest only must travers the width of, not the length, and for that they get exactly the same food as they would in the park at half the price. It's not soggy packed food you spent the time putting together and is now no longer fresh anymore. Also: Canada wonderland is s crowded it takes almost as much time standing in line as id would to leave and go to the Subway across the street.
