    I believe so. I know RootsMagic allows for imports of older programs but you might loose some of the information that you inputted into Family Origins because that's the nature of the GEDcom file transfer system.

    Hello, I have a large tree on Ancestry which makes my Gedcom file to large to upload to Gedmatch. Can you tell me how I can reduce my Gedcom file so that it can be uploaded to Gedmatch? I also want to make sure that the file I upload to Gedmatch doesn't contain personal information of living individuals and I am unsure of how to do this. Love Love all of your videos.

    FamilySearch is a one world tree that anyone can edit. "Best" is a relative term as you'll always want to verify your information. Ancestry is the most well known but you need to be careful constructing your tree with the trees of other members. Findmypast and MyHeritage have family tree building capabilities. Those are the four online tree building platforms I use to take advantage of automatic record hinting. The problem with the word 'best' is that you need to verify all information across platforms. However, FamilySearch is the one where I've been able to attempt to halt the perpetuation of incorrect information on various family trees.

    Hello! I just started diving into my family tree on familysearch.org and have been able to trace back branches of my family tree to the 1600s. BUT when I bought RootsMagic and started importing my tree, it just KEEPS GOING! I'm up to my 27th great grandmothers and approaching 10,000 people... is this typical?! When I go to the tree online, most of the lines I follow back stop around 1600, I can't figure out where all of these people are coming from! Was I supposed to limit the import somehow?

    Change your settings to less than generations back and all the descendants. I typically set my tree to download 5 generations and 2 generations of children (sometimes only 1 generation of children). That should help.

    I had my heritage family tree builder years ago but for some reason it went away so I was only using my heritage and ancestry. I recently saw the family tree builder and remember having it years ago so I downloaded it did the gedcom from MyHeritage now it won’t sync all the way, some of the pictures did not transfer. When I added info from ancestry never updates to my heritage. Do I need to delete ftb and start over everything is so jumbled up now. Idk t know what to do. I like the info in ftb because I could get reports and charts that I could nort get on ancestry or my heritage.

    I suppose the question is, where do you want your primary tree? And, how large is your family tree? If I want my primary tree on my computer, I would fix the genealogy software database and then upload new GEDcom files to Ancestry and MyHeritage. If you want your primary tree on one of the other platforms, I would correct that tree and migrate to the other two. I'm not sure if that helps, but keep asking follow-up questions if it didn't.

    Hi, ty for the information. I want to create a GEDCOM file by downloading from MyHeritage . As you have described, I can receive an email which contains the created file. I click on it then what? I am asked to save it but how? I used notepad but the file is a mass of lines. Can you explain how to properly save the emailed file?

  • @FamilyHistoryFanatics

    @FamilyHistoryFanatics

    Жыл бұрын

    The GEDcom file is a mass of lines. That code goes into another family tree reading program. So, Save the file to your computer following whatever the latest instructions are from MyHeritage. Then you can import that tree file into a genealogy software program of Ancestry, or a DNA website like GEDmatch for the tree portion of that website. Does that help?

    Have you considered using the free version of RootsMagic 8? rootsmagic.com/RootsMagic/ You can open two GEDcom files at the same time and then compare folks person by person. You can also create a third GEDcom file, import the two files into one and then run an auto-merge or manual merge to see which information should survive. Other than that, I'm not sure which program would work. Sorry. That's a fantastic question.

It's called "GEDCOMpare" There are 291 suggested matches to consider. Add & Edit: If you reject or confirm all suggested matches you can use comparison pop-ups to create and improve profiles on WikiTree. People in GEDCOM: 489. Marked as completed: 83 Some are pink and others in a light purplish color. Any thoughts or suggestions from that point? I am trying to understand their process of it all. Wikitree is sort of new to us. We made a basic video but don't do a lot of research or documentation on it. Since we primarily use FamilySearch Family Tree to record all of the information, adding an additional site would double the amount of work. So you would be better off reaching out to the Wikitree community in their forums for this question.
