Okay… this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but if you’re struggling financially, and trying to save money, don’t keep pets. The amount of money spent on food, toys, hygiene, the vet, etc. can add up quickly. I mention this because I have a relative who struggles hard financially. It blew my mind that while she was struggling to pay for basic necessities, she kept multiple cats. I swear she paid more money on them than almost anything else, and then constantly complained that she was broke. If you’re an animal lover, maybe volunteer at your local shelter, or turn your passion into a pet sitting business or something. That way you get your animal fix without spending money you don’t have.

I partly agree, however I kinda think it also depends on when you got the pet. If you struggle, don't get a pet. If you get a pet when you are financially stable and then down the line start to struggle I think you still have a responsibility to the pet though. I used to dumpsterdive for my own food to save money for my dogs kibble, and that was a _huge_ motivator to pivot and improve my life. Now we are both better off. My take is if you are thinking of getting a pet and can't afford insurance and putting money away for an EMF for your pet: you can't afford a pet. The pet will be cheep when it's young, but pets age _fast_ , you need money put aside. If you can't afford to, or feel like, prioritising that, don't get one. Once you get a pet they deserve your commitment.

It's normal for everyone just to get a dog or a cat nowadays because reasons, when they are still studying or doing odd jobs. A dog lives 9-13 years and cats can live up to 20, it should be considered a big commitment and those people who "can't afford" insurance are the ones who really need it as eventually some health issues will come up, are they just going to put their pet down when they can't afford the treatment? Or use credit and have crazy interest... If you're able to have a proper emergency fund then sure feel free to skip the insurance but most are living paycheck to paycheck...

I started making my coffee at home this year and holy crap what a difference. Much healthier using sugar free options, and tastier, for a fraction of the price, even with using nespresso pods. Now when I buy a coffee I regret it immediately cause it’s just not as good and costs $6+. Make my coffee the night before while I’m watching tv and doing dishes, and it’s nice and cold the next morning without being watered down by ice 🤷🏻‍♀️

You make great points, but as someone on a pension (only source of income at the moment) saving even $5-K this year is a daunting task, what with increased rent, grocery prices, having just paid another $1.7-K in Federal Tax on top what was already taken out, bills, rising entertainment costs, and generally being nickel-and-dimed to death (last year a “sanitation charge” of $9/mo was added to my water/internet bill) I’m very frugal w/ electricity, water, supermarket shopping (no meat, cheese, sodas, coffee, “impulse items”) and my phone bill is $35-40/mo but I’m seriously considering moving to save at all. It’s impossible these days, and neither major party is helping hard-working folks, or those who have and would like to find some modest income stream to supplement themselves.

I save a fair amount of money by getting meat from the Manager's Special section (always at least 30% below original price), baked goods from the Oops We Baked Too Much rack, and miscellaneous items from the Clearance stack. I also look low and high along each aisle that I visit - this is where the lower cost and clearance items are stacked.

Dental/Vision was separate; made more use of those, but to save I had to drop the Vision part, even while still working. But did I see any of that income taken but not spent go towards future health needs, or even returned just a little bit to me? HELL NO. Insurance pisses me off worse than rent/housing costs in the USA. 😠

I always ask myself, “Is it a want or need?” When I walk through a store and see things I like, I imagine my self loading it up to donate. This makes me lose my desire to buy it. When I need something I ask myself do I already have this? Or is there anything I have that will work instead? Or can I borrow it from my neighbor?

Also the processing of the voice needs a bit more compressor and EQ. But the sound design, man... Really loud and inappropriate. Sorry, for the critics but I just think it will all add to your product, which is really cool! Thank you again, for what you do!

An easier way is to sell plasma. Then you can study/listen to or read a good book, plan for the future, etc. It takes a bit of effort to set things up, but it earns a little and helps others in need. ETA: it takes some time to take your plasma and return saline to your body, but if you can fit it in and multitask while donating, it can be helpful. Kind of a last resort when you’re too overwhelmed to add another “real” job or “side hustle”.
