How To Run An Unsuccessful (But Popular) Auto Repair Shop (And A Farewell Shop Show)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Warning! This episode contains at least two swears. If you watch with children, I advise you to plug their ears for the last minute or so.
Anyway, after years of balancing in a tenuous financial position, the impending loss of my partner to the great state (well, the state) of Utah has brought me around to making the decision I had already made, but hadn’t figured out how to execute. Shop’s closing. I’m ok with it.
Oh also, before the world ended in 2020, we used to throw shop shows a few times a year. We decided to do one more to give the place a proper send off.

Holy shit man, this video hit me in the feels. I could have made the exact same video in 2007. I ran a shop in Texas for 9 years. I had the exact same issues you did, disorganized, not finishing things, being too nice. I had no business running a business. Sold most of it and joined the Air Force. I don't live to far from you.

Wow. Well, it definitely feels good knowing I’m not the only one. I gave it a good run. I took a job at a Mopar specialty shop, and am loving everything about that. It pays well and is currently 3 days a week, which gives me time to keep projects going in my home shop as well. I couldn’t ask for a much better setup. And the stress is many, many times lower.
I believe there’s bigger and better things coming your way, the shop was an incredible experience that not many have had and being able to run it 7 plus years says the kind and honest person you were. I know you’ll do better and I hope you take all of us on the ride 😁
I love the A Perfect circle reference on the window 😂😂

Wait… hold on… wait a second. What? I’m so confused. Lol. It’s not that
You are a resourceful guy with a positive outlook and I think you will accomplish any thing you want to. I enjoy uour uploads and I hope you continue to take us along in your journey through life. I wish you all the best for the future. Stay safe.
First, you learn to run yourself. Second, you learn to run a crew. Third, you learn to run the business. And finally, the hardest part. You learn to run the money. Number four has got more of us than anything.

I really, really focused on #1. None of the others ever came naturally.
Like John said, go with a smile. It's sad but life goes on. Great video like always dude. Keep up the awesome work.
Looking forward to seeing what your next adventures going to be.
Sounds like you guys had fun, did right by the customers & learned stuff. 5 years is all 1/2 of small businesses survive- must have been doing something right!
I feel this. My shop went the same way.. like exactly... The only diff, I didn't have the brains or the spirit to have a blowout party at the end. If I could go back now... Back doing the other thing I love though so there's always that :) Live the dream man!
Been there, done that....sometimes you have to fail a time or two (or three) before you figure it out....
Great video my man!! You made a heck of a run, and it sounds like you're ready to be done, so I won't say, "sorry to hear about the shop". I've been in similar situations before in regards to business affairs, so I get it. It A LOT!! Keep it up here on KZread, you might be wrenching on you own stuff all the time and paying the bills too!! Great channel!!

@@DeadDodgeGarage I hope I so, been in the same trade for 25 yrs (not a mechanic), first run 100% solo was almost 6 years, now we're back at it again. If you knew how many things you said about the way a guy runs a business that I have said to myself, or operated the same way... Nice guys finish last I guess. Thanks a lot man, again,we love the channel...
Great video! I think we've all been there at one time!
I am extremely grateful to you for getting my Roadkill truck running AND running well enough to be my daily driver for spring and summer. I enjoy driving it so much 🥰

I love seeing it go down the road! While it was definitely challenging, I was happy to work on it and glad I could help. If you go find my video called ‘The Little D100 That Could,’ you might see something very familiar!
Love the show Jamie! Originally came across your channel when hunting for M37 info. Found your presentation to be interesting, entertaining and educational. And…it has a therapeutic quality! Lowers my blood pressure knowing I am not the only one that has too much $hit going on at once! Even though I am not a Dodge guy (sold the 53 M37. 69 Valiant slant 6 went a long time ago. I don’t talk about the Shelby Charger. Durango doesn’t count) still subscribe to the channel for entertainment purposes. Keep up the good work. Like my teenage years and Hot Rod magazine, always look forward to the next release. Keep up the good work and sarcasm! 👍👍👍🍻

Thank you! I definitely appreciate that.
Ya know this is one of my favorite videos you have done. The mixing video talent and the story of triumph and loss to live again. But the own yur shit part is why we are such close friends. You own it with a grin Jamie. A shit eatin one most times. So now that you proved you can only eat corndogs and have achieved global dominantance look back from then to now. I am proud of ya son. And remember going backwards is only for the netural drop to go forward.😂
damn man i just found your channel, i hope things go better for you soon, you got this

Honestly things are going great for me - this included. I had some good times here but a lot of stress. I’m looking forward to being done with it. Thanks for watching!
I hear ya !
Haha just like my shop, I dare you to find a flat surface to set anything on - mental note: the battery in the clock still needs changing after several daylight saving time cycles As long as that red Charger is within eyeshot, everything will be alright
I recognize that sign at the end! Love your hat, by the way.

Solid hat, right?! I’ve rarely had a hat that I liked enough to put on my head, let alone continue to do so daily. Do with that information what you like Hammer time!

@@DeadDodgeGarage Other offerings are currently available, but do not compare. Let me know if you find a viable cleaning regimen. Mine is filthy and I’m out of replacements.
I worked my way up from a kid right out of trade school to managing shops. Being a great wrench does not usually make a gret business man. Dont feel bad.
At least you still have all your stuff.
Well, that was bitter/sweet. Right?

Same with me I loved the work and the people but the stress from the business end was not good. It's bittersweet I do miss it but at the same time wouldn't do it again.
To late I already did that !
I don’t understand you seem to accomplish things unlike Uncle Tony and he seems to stay afloat?
@DeadDodgeGarage
Жыл бұрын
Haha. I personally stay afloat just fine. The overhead and tool accounts for three people at the shop, coupled with everything we touch going badly and poor management, made it a failing business just about from the jump. At this point I have so many other projects and pursuits to work on (and profit from) that the shop wasn’t my main focus anymore, and it was costing me more money than it was making. It was a three way partnership, and with one of the partners leaving (the one who brought in all the money) it was time to pull the plug. Uncle Tony is popular enough that he has ad revenue to cover his overhead. I’m making about $120 a month now so… I’m not there yet. Haha. Also, only a handful of my videos were filmed at this shop. My home shop is where I started the channel, and where I will continue it.
