    I'm little expert on fishing and i need your advice on lines to use on saltwater, surf fishing. at the beginning i will use a yoyo because i like it and in the future i will buy a rod. so my questions is: 1. can i use only fluorocarbon line on yoyo or i need a fluorocarbon leader to attach to it ? 2. is it the best for a yoyo or should i use like braided with fluorocarbon leader ? 3. what sizes do i need for the saltwater ? 4. right now what is the good brand to buy from ?

  • @BlackWarriorLures

    @BlackWarriorLures

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey, thanks for chiming in. Let's see: 1. Yes, fluorocarbon only is perfectly fine on a yoyo. You don't need a leader at all. These can be a simple or a complicated as you like. 2. Never use braid on a handline. It will cut through you hand like a knife through Bologna. Stick with mono or fluoro. I prefer mono. It's cheaper and handline fishing is not a finesse fishing method, honestly. 3. The size will depend on what you're targeting. However, 100 lbs to 300 lbs is quite common in saltwater. 4. That depends on what you plan to do long term. If you just want to get started and don't see yourself using yoyos for a long time, then get a cheap plastic one off Ebay or Amazon. If you plan to fish yoyos to last a lifetime and pass them down to your kids and grandkids, try one of my yoyo on the my Web site: blackwarriorlures.com/shop/ Let me know if that helps.

    @@BlackWarriorLures ty sir for your reply, i already got some yoyo, only need line. after long search i couldn't find more than 25 LB fluroro like daiwa or seaguar, only fluoro leader can be higher maxed at 80 lb. unlike mono which i found like from triple fish max 300lb, but i wish to get fluoro because i need something to live longer and resist bites and rock scratch. since i only can buy lines online i would like your opinion on lines and brand to buy.

    Im using a ban yoyo with 1/4 jig head and a curly tail grub. I want this to be an all situations kind of fishing setup. 1. I don't know if I need a backing line and if I do should it be braid mono fireline or fluorocarbon? 2. I think that 12# test is good for trout up to smaller salmon and catfish and even smaller ocean fish but correct me if you think I need heavier or smaller line. 3. If I use fluorocarbon as the main line will I need to use a smaller jighead weight to compensate for the floro line sinking faster? THANKS

  • @BlackWarriorLures

    @BlackWarriorLures

    7 жыл бұрын

    You don't need backing, but you need to protect your hands. it's running line for big fish. Also I run 27 lbs lead core line. That way I never have to ad more weight of any kind. 12 lbs is a great leader size, but for your hands you need a much bigger line. It's all about protecting your hands. 27 lbs lead core has the same diameter as 40 lbs mono filament, and that is plenty of protection for your hands, not to mention you can run as deep as you want. Once you use lead core you won't need jigs anymore. Lead core is a more efficient setup. Mono or floro doesn't matter in terms of the leader, but use something thick as your mainline. Weighted line is best. Do not use braid! That's like a razor in your hands!

  • @BlackWarriorLures

    @BlackWarriorLures

    7 жыл бұрын

    Again your main line should be something thick enough to protect your hands. Just go with leadcore. Even 18 lbs leadcore will be much thicker than any mono or floro you'd use. If you don;t want to go the lead core route. Go with 20 lbs mono, as it stretches. Since you don't have a rod absorbing the shock, you need a line that has natural shock absorption. Mono is best. Use a floro leader is you like, but mono is were it is in handlines. again I prefer lead core or some kind of weighted line. Even weighted fly line can be used to great effect.

    For shore fishing I would rig it with pure mono fishing line to make casting easier. Monofilament spools off the reel easier. The size line will have to be paired with the size fish you plan to catch.

  • @BlackWarriorLures

    Ehhh, for salt I wouldn't want to go below 200lbs anything. Mono is the line of choice in the salt for a handline. 200 or 300 lbs mono. You need mono because of the stretch.

    Black Warrior Lures thank you sir. The reason I asked is that I had a large black YoYo spooled with 100lbs test line. It was used for shore line fishing in PR by the previous owner and we used it in Guyana for those supersized catfish in both fresh and saltwater. I also fished with Cubans who used the standard store bought versions with about 30lbs test/sliding egg sinker rig. But I better heed your warning.😁

    Dude, your MAIN LINE is the white one, your LEADER is the green one, and what you're calling your leader is actually a TRACE line, those short lengths of line in between the hook and another item of terminal tackle, such as a swivel or ring.

  • @BlackWarriorLures

    @BlackWarriorLures

    4 жыл бұрын

    Okay, thanks. It's works either way. I used the terminology from fly fishing. Not sure why people get up in arms over semantics. The fish don't care what we call it. Like the fish are saying, "Oh, I'm not going to bite because he didn't call the leader a trace line." Again I took terms from fly fishing and applied it to the handline. Again the fish don't care. Thanks for stopping by.
