Currently i am using an Optiplex 780 core2duo 4GB ram, running latest Linux Mint XFCE. It runs fine for everyday tasks: remote support, movies & internet, emulators & light gaming...

Nice. almost the same specs as mine. Very practical and stable for everyday regular use.

Can you watch KZread at 1080p without skipping frames on it?

@@Bender-official that's the thing. I've been experiencing large amount of frame drops as well. very much expected with old hardwares. I may have to tinker with browser settings and graphics driver further to reduce frame drops. If none of these works, probably adding a gpu could.

@@olemrockadoo you could try "h264ify" that is a browser plug in that forces the use of h264 codec on youtube instead of VP8/VP9 that might work better on older GPUs.

Cinnamon or Mate still pretty good for this PC.

I have been trying to install windows 11 LTSC lately and I have the same problem, I think Microsoft have changed requirements for the most current windows11 <sc, it needs a feature in the cpu that is not available in older cpu

Yes I think so too. And even if I successfully installed windows 11 LTSC, my old pc won’t be able to handle it well. Linux is still best for old hardwares.

I have a celeron from 2012??? I don't really know but im running it with linux mint cinnamon and it's great! I also picked some decommissioned workstations that contains either xeon or i5s and im planning to build my own homelab soon.

Great! Same here, I'm also on the lookout for some cheap old units to try other distros.
