How To Review Anki Cards Faster In Med School

How do you use Anki cards to study and review faster in med school?
If you are a med student or even a pre-med researching how to get into medical school, you’ve likely heard about Anki. I have talked about it in the channel and I am sure there are a lot of students and doctors doing videos and blogs that have praised how helpful it can be.
But how exactly does it help you improve memorization for your lessons and improve studying altogether?
In this video of the TMJ show, I will go through how I use Anki and how it has helped me graduate with honors.
Specifically, I will teach you how to make your own flashcards, and help you save time by knowing exactly what to put in your Anki cards. These cards will help you review a lot quicker and can bring a big impact in your overall studying.
Check it out and see if Anki cards are for you!

Hi friends! I hope you enjoyed this video on how to use Anki cards to review faster and improve your studying in med school! Do you use Anki!? How do you use it and how different is it from my Anki strategy!? How do you maximize using flash cards for your study process!? Let me know along with any questions you have below!

This is important because if you take way too long to do Anki it almost becomes not worth it. It is meant to be a quick process - if you don't know it, move on because it will come back for review again! Great tips :)

I've started using this technique. Makes life so much easier. Less time preparing, more time studying. Do the flashcards regularly and eventually it will all stick in. As the info in each flashcard will be great, I try to lecture out loud all the information and then review to see how many point I got correct. I combine this with the brain dump method taught in the other video. Fantastic!

Thanks for your helpful videos. I am a homeschooling educator, and I am working to incorporate Anki into our daily middle school studying routine. I like your 10 second timer suggestion for reviewing a flashcard. Do you use a setting in Anki to it, or do you simply mentally pace yourself?

Hey, great video. I just started medical school and have been applying your strategies. Right now it takes me about twenty to thirty minutes to make a flashcard per lecture, then about 1-2 hours to really get the material down with anki. But how much time did you spend reviewing your old anki decks, because right now most of my time is spent reviewing all my old ones. Do you ever suspend a deck or did you always review all of the cards you ever made.

  • @TheMDJourney

If you're having trouble reviewing then I would add specific session in your calendar to review a specific deck. For example. Monday 6-6:45: Review Lecture 10. During these instances I tend to do a cram session through the Anki options to see all the cards. I delete anything that irrelevant (useless card). I try to schedule each lecture 2 more times before the test (if possible). This usually means I review the lecture the first time (not including the day of the lecture) during that coming weekend. Then I review it on a specific day a few days before the quiz or test. Hope that helps!

Hey there I have a quick question about how you use Anki. Do you create a study deck for every lecture or do you clump all the cards into a large deck (E.g A deck for Test 1, Test 2, etc.)?

Big Anki deck for class with decks underneath per class/lecture

I don't love this method. I prefer cloze deletion or image occlusion. HOWEVER, recently I was really short on time and needed to quickly cover some lectures for psychopathology so I just used this method and ended getting an 83 on the exam. So it is effective especially when you have a time constraint, it's definitely better than nothing. I wouldn't do this if i had ample time though. Mainly because a big flaw of this method is its failure to weed out low-yield info. Also, cloze deletion is much better at helping you learn nitty gritty details while getting the whole picture.

If you only take 10 seconds to answer the card, how can you repeat the whole thing in such a short time?

  • @Arkadij7

I got a question. If you only take 10 seconds to answer the card, how can you repeat the whole thing in such a short time? I mean most of the time a subject is huge and the cards won't be that short. I could never answer a whole card in only 10 seconds und learn something new in 10 seconds. For example I'm studying right now for pathology. How would you do that?
