How to Rev-Match an AUTOMATIC Car
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Many people have asked me how I rev-match automatics in all my videos, and really it's very simple. This video explains how.

Im hesitant to admit I zone out as I soon as I learn the car your reviewing is an automatic transmission. As a die hard manual-only driver, this video and the sound of that glorious Honda has convinced me to revisit your Z4 content. Your a very competent driver. G'day from across the pond!

I used to have one of these accords. Such a nice car to drive. Good sleeper looks like grandpa's car but goes like stink when needed.

@KiwiCarLife

Yeah CU2's do it pretty well too
You can do it with any auto car just drop it down to 4,3,2,1 stap the throttle a split second after dropping it and does it nicely. Not sure how the transmission takes it would be nice to know but just if anyone on here thinks you need tiptronic, you don’t
@KiwiCarLife
Жыл бұрын
Yeah you can do it with most autos regardless of tiptronic or D321 but not all autos. Some will be really jerky if you try

My car is D,3,2,1 but also has an overdrive off button so when I’m cruising in 5th I can downshift to 4th and then into lower gears to engine brake instead of trying to revmatch a 5 to 3 shift
So to sum up the video, the second you press on the down shift, you kinda blip the throttle? does this apply to cvt transmissions as well with manual modes? I feel the car making us lunge forward specially when I downshift for a higher speed, thanks!
@KiwiCarLife

Yeah so I mentioned in the video that it only works with some automatic, not cvt

can i do that with old 4 speed slushbox? i mean just downshift from D>3>2>L.

Depending on the car yeah
Can you do it whilst braking? Like heel toeing but in an auto. Or does it work best when you're just crusing and want to change gears.

can you do this on a cvt on manual mode? Or is it exclusively for automatic trans' manual mode?

Always find myself doing this in my auto Accord Euro. Get given heaps of shit for 'trying to make it sound like a manual' but I really don't care, and just love the sound it makes especially with my exhaust. Question tho. Is it normal that my exhaust burbles quite a bit whenever I downshift, or if I lift off the throttle and shift?

@@LilTemha don't have any tune, and still have my cat in. Which kinda makes me wonder if I really need the tune. Looking at buying some PLM headers, and the test pipe should clear up a whole lot of air flow meaning I'll likely go from the odd loud pop to some loud bangs! And a tune on top of that might just make it too much for daily driving 😅

Is it a true blip where you're supposed to let off the throttle after the stab? Or do you just keep your foot down the whole time through the downshift? Been trying this with my accord but I can't get seem to make it smooth.

@@zachlahr329 you can use it, you just can’t rev match like I was doing in the video. Some autos keep like a constant mesh while changing gears so there’s no gap to blip the throttle it’ll just lurch the car forward

@@KiwiCarLife actually I was just driving home from my lecture and I was messing with it in some neighborhoods at low speeds and gears and I think I figured it out. I just have to downshift at low enough rpm that the engine doesn’t have to do much catching up. It seems to fix the lurching at least

LS1 I presume is V8? You'll have to try and find out. Like I mentioned, it doesn't work with all autos as some keep like a constant mesh and don't give you a window to rev match in between gear changes.

I hate downshifting in my automatic 4 speed subaru forester 2013, it does not feel smooth. I assumed the rev matching was supposed to be done automatically and did not wanna try and rev match and potentially damage the car. Now I see that this is normal so I will give it a go next time I drive it.

I found myself really needing to use these to slow myself down for a while. My brake rotors got incredibly warped at one point. And while I was saving money for new rotors, I wanted to slow down more smoothly without having to push the brakes so hard that the whole car juddered. So I would downshift and lightly brake between shifts so I could slow down with putting too much stress on my fucked rotors 😂
