I know I’m 3 years too late, but the only reason he had two phones was to create the backup. You don’t even need a second phone for that. I think he just used it to show that everything had transferred successfully

He told you to back up on the old phone before you tried to set up new phone. You could do it from iPad too, I think.

Update it did. Thank god 🤣 I needed to get rid of system data that was taking up 21 gigs I backed up my phone to my mac Reset everything. And restored it and boom right back to normal. Thank god i was so prepared to have to redo my entire home screen setup again but i didnt have to!!
