Best n54 videos, top quality . Will be watching many more of your vids
rubbing alcohol will eat the old soft touch paint right off but it will discolor the plastic, if you're painting it then it won't matter. If you don't want to discolor the plastic for whatever reason then use brake fluid, it takes longer, need to let it sit for about 40min to absorb into the old coating, but it won't eat the plastic like alcohol will.
Denatured alcohol worked a dream on my sticky 2007 e91 soft touch rubbery bits, particularly the steering wheel which was peeling horribly. No discolouration on the trim after whatsoever. Plastic pry tool wrapped in a soaked Microfibre and lots of elbow grease works very well indeed!
Video was very helpful was considering matte black wrap but now may go paint thanks
First fix for this I’ve seen that looks the closest to OEM. Great Job 👍

Everything looks better than a fake carbon fiber, for people pretending that they have newer car than they really have.
Nice work.
Nice. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video!! You and I are probably the only two people who like the wood trim! Lol. Nicely done, definitely need to do my steering wheel too! How about doing one on the cup holders? They usually don’t extend fully anymore.

Haha I'd recommend just replacing them with new, I've experienced that issue before, quite ANNOYING!
Hey, do you have any color suggestions to be closer to a BMW gray(trim)? In your case is wood texture, but mine is gray and I accidentally damage it with a screwdriver :((( ty!
Acetone free nail polish remover works great too
This was perfect vid
Nice video man, btw do you know any other spray paint? Here at Portugal, I can't get this Rust-Oleum Regards!!
Great video! Btw anyone trying this, please don't forget to disconnect the battery before taking the air bag off

What's that first beat? So good and chilled
Merci, vraiment propre.
Citrus paint stripper works great. 30 minute soak and the old crappy paint scrapes off with a wooden paint stirrer... I used Duplicolor BMW 258 black paint and their Adhesion promoter.

Oven cleaner works best for me. The spray kind, let it soak 5 mins and get a scotch brite to scrub everything easy.
I've been told DOT brake fluid can remove this softtouch coating. I never tried.

@@TheBimmerBarn Thank you Chris. I actually have a question. My oil filter gasket blew and I replaced both gaskets on my 335i. As you know, I have that milkshake in my cooling system now. The fan is already removed and I also unplugged the various cooling hose. How can I clean the cooling system without replugging everything and bleeding the system 7 times? Is there a way to flush/clean the cooling system while it's open? Thank you,
@TheBimmerBarn

@@samyb2834 You could force some water through the outlet at the oil filter stand, and have a hose unplugged at your water pump to flush that. Flush the radiator too, that one's easy! You can try to get it best as possible, but you may still need to drain and fill it a few times to get all of it! Best of luck Samy
Nice! How well did it hold up to scratching and fingernails?
Chris looks, good man.

Thanks Reginald! Its a really nice color paint, can't wait to use it on more trim pieces on my cars.
How did it hold up ? Would assume it would get still heavily scratched from being touched and or cleanning
@TheBimmerBarn

It's held up really good actually, especially considering the steering wheel is a high traffic area. Also used this for restoring many other trim pieces and the results are consistently good. Thanks for watching!
Came for the 540i wagon, stayed for the e92 335i.
Hey Chris, is it possible to restore the door sills if they are chrome? I am picking up all four "BMW Individual" chrome door sills that shows its wear and tear with multiple scratches on each trim. Love your content bro!
Hi, clicked the link to the spray paint you used and it says GLOSS BLACK but your final product looks matte and OEM. Any chance there was an error??? thanks in advance

It's the flat black paint on the same Amazon page, I just fixed the link. Thanks for letting me know and good luck!
Can’t you remove plastic trim without having to remove the airbag?
do you think a clear coat would layer would help?

I was wondering the same thing…
Link for paint doesn't specify color. Flat black, semi gloss, or ultra matte black?
@TheBimmerBarn

I went with the Flat black, it held up really nice!
The wood trim looks so much better.
Great job and good taste. I'm not a biggest fan of wooden trim but everything looks better than a fake carbon fiber, which looks cheap and completely tasteless.
Hi bro ! I can use any matte paint for the steering wheel?
@TheBimmerBarn

I'd recommend something meant for plastic, and that has a strong surface when dried. I like the stuff I used in this video because it doesn't peel off, or scratch easily. Good luck!

Downpipe 🫣
This vid skipped the direction of taking the wheel off..
lol rubbing alcohol. don't use anything OTHER than rubbing alcohol.
That’s not maturing. That’s called bad taste or trying to go against popular opinion Bcs you think you’re a rebel. Wood grain in a car screams grandmas living room.
Did you say you like that wood trim? It does not look good, subjective or not it just does not.
