How to response to your dog when he tries to dominate you

Don’t do this your dog won’t learn he’ll keep doing it, you need to establish an alpha dominant role. My 110 pound Chesepeake bae retriever did this. What I recommend is stand your ground look them in the eye and even give a small growl to let them know your in control. If they disengage eye contact it means they’re submitting. If they don’t grab them by the fat of there neck behind there ears lightly (don’t hurt them) also light smack there snout. Again when grabbing them by the fat on there neck only apply pressure if they continue to be aggressive or try to establish dominance over you, then throw them outside. When they come back in look them in the eyes until they disengage eye contact and tell them to sit and give you paw. If they do give them a treat. Again just turning the other direction is a sign of submission which is why your dog keeps doing this. If you really want to correct the behaviour you have to use eye contact, be a little physical and positively reinforce them for obeying your orders. Again trust me on this my Chesapeake at 110 was once violent and almost seriously hurt my other dog by trying to establish dominance over her. To stop her from doing it in the future I made myself known as the alpha and corrected her behaviour using these steps. Good luck and have a blessed 2023. The people that tell you to look away and turn your body away especially with a bigger dog like this don’t know what they’re talking about, it never works and is a sign you submit to your dog which puts them in control.

This!!!! Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I have done this with my male Malinois X. Nipped that behavior in the bud and never again did he try. People will be wondering why their dog has behavioral issues with aggression and when I ask about it, it's because they let dumb shit like this in the video happen over and over and don't wanna traumatize the dog with firm, hard corrections *smh* I tell them there is a huge difference between abuse and discipline. And if they too soft to do the right thing, well good luck with your dog and hope it won't maul a child to death. Even when the dog has bitten and attacked other dogs and people, they are still unwilling to correct their dogs and get them trained!

This is horrible advice, the only thing you are doing is making your dog afraid of you and making you look dumb as hell. Turing away is a signal of disengagement, not "submitting". If the man was "submitting" he would show his belly, not turn away. He's descalating the situation, which is smart. You are escalating the situation, escalating the dog's excitement. Do you know what happens when you get a dog over excited? It bites and you have no control. True control is being able to get your dog off of you without having to growl and manhandle your dog. If I saw you doing this to your dog I would laugh, because you clearly have no idea what you are doing. There is no "alpha" hierarchy in dogs, even if there was one in wolf packs, dog's are not the same species. What you have is a poorly socialized and bratty dog, not a "dominant" dog. Seriously, do not listen to this "advice", the man does not even know what animal he is training.

Correction how not to respond to dog dominating you. You think It's funny but it causes issues that are then blamed on the dog.

Commands dont slways work even if shouted especially in dominant breeds their tryna assert dominace because they are challenging you so pinning your dog whilst holding the back of its neck is not harming him its no more than rough play, but also a valuable lesson to him youbare the alph & certain breedsvit is imperative YOU are the alpha

Get ur dog trained never let ur dog do that to you. If it does it to you it will do it to ur guests and will be sued. Definitely seek out a professional trainer.

My dog doesn't hump but nips me, more so like when he is excited- like when he knows we're going out for a walk. Even though I find it cute it also annoys the hell out of me, I clap him off and make him sit but he still insist seconds after, my next step is a whistle.

To every wingnut, dollar store degree in animal behavior, knucklehead in the comments, there is no such thing as a damn "alpha" dog. This dog has poor manners and is not trained well, that is all. What the man should have done is continued to turn away (which is a disengagement signal), and he should have given more clear direction on what he wanted the dog to do. Seems they need to train him more, and I would honestly get him fixed to make it easier on you and him. Trying to show "dominance" would only further excite the dog, and a dog who is excited is not learning, he is reacting. Teaching people to dominate their dogs just leads to bites and accidents because the dog will fear you, which does not equal respect. If you are good at training your dog then you do not need to hit, grab, or growl at your dog. If your dog respects you then they will listen to you.
