I wish I knew this before. I was breaking my head why my S4 won’t go into gear after replacing my clutch. After seeing this video and looking at a picture of my new pressure plate I noticed it’s not adjusted. I wish FCPEuro video would’ve shown this. Now I have to drop the transmission again

is the cross tool to compress the mechanism mandatory? what's the downside if you don't use the tool? THANKS

It's a really good question, I'll make a video to explain why you DON'T need the tool, if you do the bolts up evenly in small stages.

Does the thrust bearing generally put enough pressure on these?

RESET it. Not preset. RESET. If you had to re-use the old one.

Thanks for sharing. I think these pressure plates are a piece of junk. My 2.2 Civic uses this set up and is on it's FOURTH clutch in 220,000 motorway miles. My guess is the adjuster has moved all the way round causing the slip yet again, it's lasted a mere three years and 40k miles. I'm never going to have this type of pressure plate in any of my cars again. It's getting replaced with an Exedy that is just a diaphragm spring and non adjustable pivot.

Being fitted wrongly perhaps. I've never had a problem with them, it's just so the pedal pressure remains constant throughout life.

LUK clutch now removed and thrown in the skip. There was no wear on the friction disc and it still had the machine marks on the pressure plate face. The 'adjuster' had moved to two thirds adjustment, which was causing the slip. Utter garbage. I now have an Exedy NON self adjusting clutch kit on my car, same pedal feel and more importantly, no slip!!
