    Speaking as a person with a B.S. In Molecular Genetics, I would HIGHLY recommend using a solution of only liquids (like rubbing alcohol or water) with no dissolved solids. This is because liquids will always eventually evaporate completely, leaving no contaminants in the product, while solutions like setting sprays will leave behind solids dissolved in the solution and change the formula of the product. The reason most people use alcohol instead of water is because it evaporates SO much more quickly than water. Any fears of alcohol being bad for your skin are unfounded - yes, alcohol is bad for skin and should be avoided in skincare, but if you wait until your repressed powder product is completely dry, all the alcohol will be evaporated and will never come into contact with your skin.

    thank you so much for this comment Sophia, I was wondering how come only alcohol/water is used. I've seen people use pressing mediums of a solution of different oils, what do you think about that?

  • @sophiastone4749

    @sophiastone4749

    @@MiaRBeautySorry I just saw this! Oils have much higher boiling points than water or alcohol, so while they do evaporate, they evaporate veeeeeery slowly. So if you repress something with an oil, some of the oil is likely to stick around for good.

    Does rubbing alcohol dry out the formula? I know that some powders have small amount of oils I think. I'm afraid of my powders looking chalky.

    I do the same but I use a spray with the alcohol as it's easier to get an even coverage with the powder thus making it slightly faster and easier. I also press quiet hard using my whole body weight in case of dropping in future and it works awesome.

    Try to use as little of the alcohol as you can and don’t press really hard, or you’ll never get it to apply on a brush again. I would try to press it without adding the alcohol first, to see if that would work before possibly changing how it applies for ya. Just a friendly suggestion based on my f ups. Lol

    1. I would not recommend repressing a Becca highlighter very firmly. It did not pick up on my brush well after I repressed a tiny sample size one and I think I pressed it too tight. 2. I've heard that there isn't high enough alcohol content in setting sprays to use them to repress powders without changing the formula.

    I use alcohol, but put it in a little spray bottle, rather than using the cap & pouring it on the products. You can get little spray bottles in the bins where the travel size products are at most Target & Walmart stores. They're around a dollar. I LABEL that bottle of alcohol because I keep water in another one & don't want to mix them up.
