[HOW TO] Replace Your 🔥Furnace Ignitor & Flame Sensor - York Diamond 80 (EASY)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video will show you how to easily replace the ignitor on your York Diamond 80 furnace. This process will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but overall should be a similar process. Word of warning, be very careful when working on furnace parts. Make sure you turn off the power, and don't work on it after it has been running.
Check your furnace for the correct part number to purchase the correct sensor.
The furnace in this video is a York Diamond 80
Here is the ignitor I used: amzn.to/2RdOAuq
I also replaced the flame sensor while I was at it, found here: amzn.to/38rYM8o

Your York is a much better design than my 25 year old one. My igniter is under the metal and you would need very tiny hands to get to the screw. I confirmed it was defective by putting an ohm meter on it and it showed open. It is spiral design and I found one on ebay. Problem is getting to the screw. Looks like I need to remove the burners to get to it and was looking on KZread for a better way.

if the igniter you just replaced is coming on does that mean it works. it does come on but the furnace doesn't seem to want to ignite. any thoughts?

The ignitor was starting to lose conductivity. I had the furnace serviced by a technician a few days before this video and he used a multimeter to check the conductivity of the piece. It was out of specification, so he recommended it be replaced. It probably would have functioned for a while longer. But I figured it was cheap and easy preventive maintenance.

Great video. I have the same furnace and just now woke up w the home feeling chilly. Checked the furnace and the blower & all seem to be working but the igniter will not come on. I’m going to have to try to find a parts store because it’s cold & don’t want to leave it like this, but I may just have to call a tech cause I’m scared it can be something else like a relay or something. But I’ll get this part just to have on hand

@@fondupot thanks. Got it fixed last night. Got both parts from a local furnace place whom were not very friendly/ & didn’t have to sell to me but I got the parts for $28, and then a friend came over and helped me install them. He then trouble shouted for an hour after that and found I also need the furnace pressure switch. Trying to get that part today. But I have heat nonetheless and the shady shop who sold me the part were pissed when I told them I love KZread, lol. Would you know the right size filter for the York diamond 80?

Glad you got it working. Your system should have a filter location on the return air ducts. Just use the same size that it’s been using, the filter usually lists the size on the side. Sometimes filters vary based on the installer. I don’t remember what size my system had, and I don’t live in that house anymore so I can’t check.

@@fondupot 🙏. No problem. I’m glad I got it running as it was quite chilly. Thank God I have some electric heat fans that helped and I also baked yesterday which helped heat some of my home lol. Yeah I’ll measure it and look it up b4 I go to Home Depot for the filter. Going to have to order the other part also to have on hand when it decides to go bad completely esp since I can’t go to that distributor. (Apparently you have to be a tech of whole sales to buy from them 🙄) regardless I saved around $4-500 on what a company would have overcharged me for on parts and labor, not to mention the trouble shooting my tech friend did yesterday even calling his friend to help.

On my York Diamond 80 the HSI won't light but the venter motor and fan motor comes on and stays on. The nipple leading into the venter motor was plugged, I had removed the short piece of tubing from the nipple to check it. The other end of the tubing is plugged into the pressure switch. I checked it out and it does not seem to be making the switch when I blow into it. So I attached the electrical wires from the pressure switch eliminating the switch. The two motors still go on and no action from the HSI. I took the T-Stat apart and just attached a jumper to the "R" and "W" cables coming out of the wall to call for heat only and eliminate the T-Stat as the problem. If I disconnect the high limit and jumper the wires putting the high limit out of the system, the motors both stop and nothing is happening. My HSI looks the same as the one you replaced. Did it work before you replaced it? I tested mine for continuity and it was good. So it wasn't broken and didn't have any cracks. I reconnected the high limit back into the system and the two motors still run. Not sure what to try next. But at this point it looks like I need a new pressure switch. And I will probably get a new HSI as well. Hope that cures my problem. I live in the north in the snow belt in Canada. We have a lot of snow and ice right now. And it's getting cold in the house. My problem just occurred during the early morning hours after midnight. And parts will not be accessible until Monday.

Dang! Sorry to hear about your problems. Not sure what else to try, seems like you have a good handle on it. My igniter was not broken when I replaced it, but it was starting to show its age when a technician tested it. That's what prompted me to replace it. I hope you get it worked out soon, so you can warm back up! Good luck.

@@fondupot Thanks for the reply. I sat in front of the furnace after jumping out the pressure switch and the limit switch the back door way. Doing it while the components were still in the system and jumping them out with the power on. Suddenly, with both the venter motor and fan running I heard a faint click from the pressure switch. I had already reassembled my T-Stat and after that click I took the pressure switch, blew in the hose nipple, gave it a little shaking and reinstalled it properly. I removed all the jumpers and put everything back in place. This was after finding that the nipple on the venter motor housing had been blocked and I removed all the crap. What had been confusing me was the fan running. I expected the venter motor to be running because on a call for heat it's the first thing to come on. I put the power on and both motors were running for a short period, then they both turned off and I had dead silence. I turned the power back off for a minute to allow the furnace to sort of reset. Then I turned it back on. I waited and nothing happened. I thought maybe I don't have the T-Stat set high enough to call for heat. So I turned the power off until I went upstairs and reamed up the T-Stat. I came back down and turned the power back on. There was silence for about ten seconds, then the venter motor went on, then the HSI started to glow, the gas valve opened and all my burners fired up. That was yesterday and it has been running normally since. I identified the problem right from the start, it was the blockage in the nipple attached to the venter motor. But it seemed to be a matter of not allowing the furnace time to reset because I think it went into a lock out condition. So everything is okay now. And I'm a lot wiser. All the best.

  • @fondupot

cdpc211 I think it does. I would first open up your furnace and check the ignitor that’s in there and compare to the part I link. From what I can tel the diamond 80 and 90 are very similar. The Diamond 90 being a more efficient furnace.

There's many very similar igniters. The connector should have a model number. Or a label on the wire somewhere.

Do not touch the element; the oil from your skin will shorten the life of the part dramatically.

  • @fondupot

    @fondupot

I'm pretty sure any oil that gets on there from your hands will be burned off the first time the furnace ignites. I don't think its a big issue if you accidentally tough the element.
