God bless you for making this 5 minutes long and not including a funny anecdote about fuel filters or 3 min footage of you wrestling with a clip. Please make more and more how-to’s for the NB!

Thanks mate, appreciate it.
Ironically...just replaced mine last month...it honestly was so easy that I kept thinking I was doing it incorrectly...important maintenance item that most people overlook 👊

Indeed, I am sure there is a formal schedule for how frequently these should be changed, for me I tend to do it 'every few years'.
Good to see you again. In preparing to do this I started the engine and pulled the fuse for the pump which depressurized the circuit and spilt a loss less fuel.

Nice work! That's a clever idea.
Thank you for the simple breakdown and clear video of the steps! Going to tackle mine right now!

Thanks for the video. What if I don't open the fuel cap, would it stop fuel to spill?
@Bbeavis
11 ай бұрын
Yes, possibly, or also possible is that there is pressure buildup in the tank and it rushes the fuel out when the hose is disconnected. I'm not sure which is more likely.
I got one of those hose clamps (a mechanic left it under the hood xd), how about using those to just stop the fuel in the hoses and avoid spillage?
@Bbeavis
Жыл бұрын
For sure, whatever floats your boat.
Question, Can I clamp the fuel lines shut to prevent spillage or would that damage them?
@Bbeavis
2 ай бұрын
Yeah I think that'd work.
You're the first one showing access from the wheel-well and I like that. I'm curious If that metal bracket is malleable enough to bend, remove filter, remove each line one at a time, and immediately attach to new filter to minimize spillage. A finger over the other hole seems easy enough to prevent gas coming out the other way. I appreciate the share. New sub.

Thanks Chuck, yeah certainly there would be enough give in the bracket and lines to be able to remove the filter under the car. For the sake of the video it made sense to remove it and take it to the bench. I am sure there are some clever methods to really minimise spillage, it doesn't bother me so much, it isn't high pressure so its only a cupful.

@chuck889 you can. i did today. just bend the filter bracket open after removing the bolt. hardest part was using a pick/disconnect tool to remove the fuel lines.

What do you do with the spilled gas? how much came out?

About half a litre perhaps, I'd usually use it in my lawn mower.

How many miles do you suggest I should replace my fuel filter ?
@Bbeavis
5 күн бұрын
I believe Mazda service intervals suggest ~40,000 kilometers/25,000 miles.
Do you think you have to run a finer micron fuel filter if you’re running e85 or flex fuel?
@Bbeavis
Жыл бұрын
I cannot see why. It's the same sort of fluid, going through the same fuel lines, injectors and fuel rail.... are you expecting e85 to be 'more dirty' than traditional petrol?

@@Bbeavis I’m in the middle of turbo charging my na8 and I’m prepping everything to do flex fuel later down the line but I’ve heard it’s recommended to go to a finer fuel filter but wasn’t sure if it was necessary

The fuel line retaining clips, I usually have success with small screw drivers or picks, but there are dedicated tools if you are really struggling.
Can you catch the spilling fuel and put it back in the tank?

Yes. As long as it's caught in a clean container.

Sorry, I don't think this is that impressive. I have actually done this with all my dogs starting at 6 months old and I would be upset if he was moving around outside after a stay command. But then again I also have had cops called on my dog before because people think he was injured since he wasn't moving. So 🤷♂️...
