Great video. It was a big help! Job was anything but fun. Mine was a 2013 and there was a bracket off the back of the block that supported the converter that had to be removed or the converter could not be dropped far enough to get the water pump out. I left the manifold in. Engineers should have to fix cars for a year before they are allowed to design anything! Maintenance was absolutely not taken in account for this task!

I stumbled across this just trying to figure out where the water pump even was. I now pray it never fails.. wow. Nice one GM

i bought a 10mm deep magnetic socket for this purpose...defenely a piece of mind

My GF's just went in her 17 Equinox. $1080 dollars and 4hrs labor to get it done. Unreal. I did her son's Jeep Cherokee and it cost less than $400 and took me 15minutes. Longest part was getting air out of the system.

My wifes 17 is making a whining sound. Was your water pump making a sound or how did you know it was bad? Our sound see.s to be from the pulley side of the engine though. Hopefully its not the water pump

So would it be possible when the water pump is replaced that they could do something to the exhaust manifold? we took ours in and when we got it back from a water pump replacement it was really loud and would smell like exhaust when the AC or heat was on while sitting idle. Now they say that the water pump has nothing to do with the manifold, yet it looks as if the manifold is removed to install the pump, and they are wanting to charge us 200 more dollars to fix a problem the vehicle didn't have before the water pump fix.

I was told to put gasket sealer on the tube o rings, is that wrong?Just use antifreeze to lube them?

It would be helpful if you were describing what you were doing....mention the part your disassembling instead of "take this off or that off.

I'm here cause of Car Wizard blurb just showed up in FB saying its a grand for a water pump. Has to see for myself

So I thibk I have coolant leaking from that drain bolt. I don't see any above that and I cna see it dripping. How is that bolt sealed. Is there a flat gasket or some Teflon tape. How can I reseal properly if it is leaking from there? I don't think it's coming from those weep holes cause it's not leaking near the shaft portion. Thanks.

What about the chain go to the pumps if you change the pump and the chains to is the chain needs a timings?

That's what the special tool was for that he bolt on before he took out the water pump. That keeps everything I'm sync while the pump is out. If you don't use the tool you will get an annoying whining sound. The balance shafted chain goes around the water pump

So without manifold removal how does that water outlet come out. Top or bottom?

Great video, I would suggest a thermostat replacement while the housing is out. The way to refill this system is remove the upper hose from the engine side, fill the radiator, then fill the engine at the neck, reconnect the hose. Top off reservoir. Start the engine, warm up. Run at 3k for 30 sec,, then idle for 30, repeat until cooling fans come on. Let return to normal temp, repeat 2 more times. Verify heat in vehicle and level in reservoir. Cool then check level. Per factory instructions.

Was just quoted $1800 by local GM dealer. $600 parts and $175 hr labor. Shop across the street was $1200

Welp! Wish me luck! I will have no choice but to do this repair in 30-40 degree weather underneath my car on the street! 😖 Thé shop quoted me $918, if I pay in cash that is. And they told me I would have to leave my car in the shop for the entire day. Uhh.. I use my car for work, so if I did this there goes one day of pay plus labor money. 🤦🏽‍♂️ They also added in buying a thermostat housing as well. Do I really have to buy the thermostat housing too? This seems to be excessive to me. Looks like I’m up sh-ts creek with this repair.

As a shop owner it is recommended the last thing we want is a stuck thermostat after doing all that work. Might as well do it while it’s apart instead of having to come back in a month to pay extra labor to change it then. It just makes sense to do it while it’s off

I talked to a car made her car sales person at a dealership last year and he was telling me how the third during the cars to be made so that you won't be able to do most of the work yourself or any at all for that matter you'll have to take it in to be serviced even to check the oil which is already coming out most cars don't have a dipstick can't figure if there's a problem with the dealership that way they make more revenue and they force you into buying a service plan with them otherwise you won't have anyone to work on your car cuz they'll be the only ones to know how high-tech that is and they'll make sure that you don't know how therefore he says, and a very near future , it won't be any more buying a car you can only lease it therefore you have a service plan with it creates more revenue for them and keeps you out of loop of saving any money and forces you into their service plan system that's what's a major corporations are going towards and they're not afraid to admit it or tell you about it either

It's not just GM they're all gearing towards the same plan you get a car you're going to need a service plan cuz you won't be able to fix it your self, and this combined with AI in a near future go figure, they'll have complete control

A good tip for lining up the sprocket holes when installing the new water pump is to take a picture of your old one and put some reference marks on it as soon as you take it out without disturbing it. use it to compare your new one next to.

That's the reason why i won't buy equinox ever. It's a terrible, when you need a special tool for replacing just a water pump. And you will need to spent whole your day for it if you do this for the first time. It must be a much simplier! It's a nightmare!
