    I have major respect for this guy who never expresses just how aggravating these jobs can be on a Ranger. I'm cussing from start to finish, throwing tools, and threatening to divorce my wife. I guess that's why he gets to be on instructional videos.

    Replacing the upper control arm and the bottom control arm ball joint. All these videos are great help. 2009 Ranger 2WD, V6 4Litre with push button overdrive.... Makes it a 5-speed automatic. Love it never selling it just continually going to fix it, when needed, which is usually never

    I just did this on my 2009 Ranger 2wd Sport,along with lower ball joint and shock.I saw no need to remove the whole inner fender,when I could just remove the splash guard piece.

    Went to inspect the front end noticed a tear in the ball joint boot, damn it! Thanks to the videos and Amazon's moog replacement, it'll get done cheap and quickly in the comfort of my driveway lol. Thanks guys

    Why is the upper control arm on the driver side a one-piece, but the driver's side is a two piece? Also, is it safe to replace a two-piece upper control arm with just one upper control arm? Won't it throw the wheel alignment off?

    @1A-Auto,, isn't it a good idea and or recommend to replace all suspension fasteners with new ones? Also shouldn't you grease any moving parts, I.e. the spindle and bushings?? Thanks

    What is the torque setting you tighten the camber bolts to before you used the screw jack.and how do you determine how much to jack it up for the preload.

    I could be wrong but I think you should jack it up until the truck's weight JUST comes off the jack stand.

    I have a 2000 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 2wd. It has this 2 piece upper control arm on the passenger side as well. I wasn't aware you could change it to the 1 piece control arm. Is that a common upgrade/conversion for Explorer/Ranger vehicles? Also, would it be a good idea to install camber/caster bolt set's when replacing the control arms? Thanks in advance.

    I took my 2008 ford ranger to a shop to get an alignment, they tried to tell me I needed new "cam bolts" which I guess is what you showed in the video, but the shop tried to tell me they needed an extra $400 for said bolts

    Benji P not sure if your year ranger came with camber bolts but if not you cannot align camber on these trucks. I have an 07 sport 2wd and I'm installing camber bolts on mine. I paid something like $50 for both sides

    If the ball joint is non removable then yes in my 2000 ranger I have to replace the whole control arm

    Is there supposed to be a plate on the front most passenger side where the camber bolt goes into. Said plate as shown 5:45. Thank you.

    That is like a washer for the nut it's got about 1/8inch spacer with the flat spot for the bolt reusing the old ones is fine just clean them and apply a bit of grease

    Can someone explain the advantage or disadvantage of converting this upper control arm from the 2 piece adjustable type to the 1 piece non adjustable piece? I need to tackle this job on my Ranger, but would like to make the best repair possible. Thanks

    +Larry Gee Thank you for the reply! A couple of the advantages of doing this swap is being able to adjust the camber and caster easier. Our video shows special bolts that are used in order to adjust this portion. You may also be able to get some additional information in regards to this repair on some automotive forums.

    I didn’t know you can go with the one piece on the passenger side. I ordered left and right control arms from my job. I returned the one piece for the right side because I thought it was the wrong one.

    I over tightened and stripped the bolt that attaches the arm to the knuckle. It's just spinning....tried vice grips and a socket while smacking it with a hammer....spinning....so I gotta cut the bolt off I guess

    I really like the two videos I watched about dealing with the torsion bar, and lower control arm. What happened to this one? seems like a different person, and poor video detail, plus dude was pretty vague on what appeared should have been important points.

    This might be too late, but I asked the same question in reddit. No, you only need one side BUT they sell them in sets of 4, so you may as well put them on each side. You really need to do both ball joints/control arms at the same time, so it's not really any additional labor to use those bolts instead of the others

    I really hope you're still reading comments on this post, because I'm having a slight issue with my 2000 4WD Ranger. On the driver's side, everything looks normal as in the video, but on the passenger's side, there's an extra arm attached to the control arm, and I can't seem to find any information on it. I took a picture of both sides, but I don't see any way to post it. Any thoughts?

    @@3dcad668 That's a good question. I'm also currently looking at that on my 99 mountaineer and scratching my head wondering the same thing. Did you ever find out why the passenger side is using the two style as opposed to the single upper control arm unit on the drivers side?

    @@rsaybe1 I got a half-assed answer from Ford dealer about how the passenger side requires more stability for some reason. Probably because the Earth's axis and tilt puts more stress on that side due to centrifugal force or something.

    @@3dcad668 lol.... that was some heavy answer getting earth involved in the equation. :) I'm needing to replace both upper pcs from the passenger side (as those bushings are worn out as well) and am planning on going with the single style. I spoke with moog and they confirmed that I can go with the single upper control arm assembly for the passenger side (part number: CK80068) and will not need to use the "Front Caster and Camber Cam and Bolt Kit (part number: k80065). And can reuse your stock hardware on both left and right upper arms, even when changing to the one-piece design arm. Will just need to have the alignment done at the shop after completing the job..

    What happens if you tighten/torque all the bolts before weight is on the vehicle? I did that before I watched any videos it drove fine to the alignment shop, I told the sales guy to tell the mechanic but he said he would figure it out, n it all gets adjusted during the alignment anyway he said. Well I drove it home and it's pulling to the right , not real bad but definitely it's not right. Taking it back Monday to the shop. Plus it got 4 new tires. Any information anyone can provide is appreciated. Thanks.

    PLEASE HELP! im working on a 2000 ranger upper ball control arm and I cant get a straight answer on which side is left and right i dont see a difference but dont wanna chance it. do they go buy looking at the front of the truck or sitting behind the wheel??

    thanks for replying thats what all my mechanic buddies said but when i go to the autozone website and look at the parts i bought from them it says the opposite??????? and I called to diff. locations and matched up the part no. and thats what they also said cause they were reading the same thing on their online parts list????

It looks like the 2006 Ford Ranger had a couple of different designs for the control arm and we can not guarantee the torque specifications will be the same on your application. We would suggest checking possibly your owner's manual or a Haines repair manual for your vehicle to confirm those specifications.

Most commonly they are both replaced at the same time as a majority of replacements come with the ball joint already pressed in ready for install. 1aauto.com
