Also in this video, I discuss and show the differences with this type of power steering pump; where some are configured as Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), have a Level Sensor and/or Steering Angle Sensor.
I also swap over the reservoir bottle as the replacement unit was damaged in the post.
Plus, you shouldn't need a Tech II tool to reset the ECU after replacement as this should clear after a few starts.

Just a tip for unclipping the side part of the bumper for some other vectras that can’t be popped off the clip. The bumper clips on to the wing bracket which slides sideways left to right. When screwed in from the wheel arch liner, the screw pulls and drags the bracket inwards to lock the bumper via the it’s brackets. So to unclip the bumper after removing the screw just stick your screwdriver in the screw hole as far as you can and this sliders the bracket out from the bumper brackets and releases the bumper :)

Hi, Thank you, I hope it helps you fix yours. I used around 500ml just to replace the Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) pump on my Vectra (which is still operating as new 😀👍), although if you are replacing the hole system (including steering rack) then you will need 905 ml in total. If you have the Compact EHPS (looks like a plastic milk bottle) it only has 725ml. For the sake of an extra £10 pounds it may be best to purchase a couple of 1 Litre products in my opinion if you are replacing the rack (you could be left stranded if you lose some pouring it in). The product you require is febi 06161 (Other codes for this fluid = 19 40 715 (93 160 548)). Here is a link to the product if you can't find it: www.autodoc.co.uk/febi-bilstein/1869157?gshp=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-af6BRC5ARIsAALPIlV74OczQgunCRp54G2KPfYPbw5qb3TXV26zPrYqx0cNAK62pNBrP7oaAmBjEALw_wcB Good luck with yours.

  • @Dev255

Hi, no problem. It should be the same type of pump and use the same fluid, it's always best to check with the main dealer for your exact car spec (it shouldn't cost anything to check with them first). I used around 500ml of fluid (febi 06161) to change just the Power Steering Pump, although you would need more if draining the rack and associated pipes too. It's also worth taking the bumper off and looking at how yours is configured, whether you have 2,3 or 4 connections as mentioned in the video and get the same pump configuration, otherwise you may get the same fault light to appear on the dash. I hope that helps, and good luck with yours. Oh and mine has just passed its MOT today with no advisories, so still going strong.

HI Max, you shouldn't need to change the fluid in the steering as it would normally last the life of the car, its worth checking all the fluid levels on the car though. These are pretty reliable cars, where they were heavily used as taxis and police cars in the past, plus this helps to reduce the parts cost as they are common. I would check all the safety things first, a common problem is the rear brake caliper pins sticking so one brake pad would wear quicker than the other. To be honest if it's your first car, I would take it for a full pre-MOT check at a local garage that will let you watch, as you will see how they do it too (kind of like a cheep lesson). :-)

They do make a fair bit of sound that sounds more laboured (struggling) the closer you get to left and right extremes, where you can hear the motor speed slow down; this is normal, although if it's loud enough to hear significantly while sitting in the car with the windows shut it may be on the way out. Plus, if you feel the steering alternating between light and heavy when steering at low speeds/stopped (less work required when driving), then this could be another indication. Hope that helps

@@next3576 if the fluid is bubbling then you have air in the system, a top up to max level and a bleed of the system should work, take a look at the end of my video, I run through the bleeding steps (basically the system auto bleeds with left to right lock). If that doesn't work you may have a leak somewhere. Power steering fluid is also hydroscopic, meaning that it absorbs water, can you be sure the fluid is good/water getting in, could be causing your issue. I'd recommend a full fluid change after looking for leaks

Hi, good question; the pump I replaced in this video is still working well. Have you considered voltage drops in the system? As this could indicate a fault with power steering pumps as they need greater than 13V to run correctly (alternator working ok and battery ok). Hi, take a listen to the front right (off side) of the vehicle when stationary to listen to the pump when the engine is running, you should be able to move the steering wheel and hear the pump doing more work (may need a friend to help). If it is loud (well above the engine noise) you may have a faulty pump, if it's not operating the fuse may have gone or, again, faulty pump. The fuse is in its own black small enclosure at the back of the battery compartment, I believe it's a 100A fuse. Hope that helps

@@mikimiki4389 Hi, it sounds like the pump that has now been fitted is looking for a steering angle sensor, where there may not be one on your version of steering. I believe there are 3 different types of power steering pump, one has a level sensor wire going to the lid of the bottle, one has a blanking plug fitted in place of the right connector and the other is connected to a steering angle sensor. If the wrong type gets fitted you may well get different symptoms and different fault codes. It may be worth you talking to a power steering reconditioning company to find out what you need.
