Just wondering why you didn't remove the rear wheels too? 🤣👍🏼

90% of the parts you remove don't need to be removed, you're doing way too much work! remove the throttle valve, the hose underneath and loosen a hose on the additional water pump as a drain for the water. I've changed it twice this way

errrm no thanks 90% of what you just did was not needed

So essentially take apart almost the entire engine to replace a thermostat? I'll never get this car.
@shizz7le489
At ine point i was convinced the engine was going to be pulled out 🤔

This is over engineering to the German Degree. Fixing it and selling it ASAP!

Very interesting educational video 🎉 however there are many missing moments for this operation and to many parts where disassembled for nothing 😀 🎉

I have to change this on a q3 TDI. Are you sure you can't get access to the thermostat by removing the feed pipe to the throttle body at the front of the engine?

Good info, thanks! I have a US Passat TDI GLS, purchased in March 2022 with 140,000 miles. It is in good condition, but needed some things fixed. It lived in TX and TN and is now in NE Ohio. In the summer it got a full coolant flush, drain, fill, run till at full temperature with tap water (our water is very clean) 2 times, then same process with distilled water, then filled with spec Ravenol concentrate coolant from Blauparts. I did not take any special steps to burp system, just checked it every few days, it needed a little topping off, but thats all. Heater was working. Thinking back it did not seem that hot. Temp gauge got up to say 120, again in hindsight I now know that is low. Now outside temps are near 35F/5C, and temp gauge is only going up to 90F. So am I looking at replacing the thermostat? Any input would be appreciated.

Mine engine only gets warm if left idioling soon I drive engine temps drops that cold , rpm cold start comes in and it’s been to dealers for various , Thermostate’s/ sensors changed , dosent use water and good return flow , can u advise what it maybe , cause water to take ages to get warm and not holding engine tempture when driving
@ebarudzija263
I changed one yesterday. I only removed the throttle and some minor other things. But it was a pain in the ass to remove the bottom screw holding the thermostat.
@rochegriffin4
