Thanks man. After replacing one of my rear wheel hubs, I messed up the shoe and couldn’t recall how it went back on; and you’re the only person who had a clear, informative video on how to do it.
Thanks for the informative videos. You do an excellent job explaining the process as you're going thru the steps. It makes it much easier to understand
TIP: When pushing the piston back into the caliper housing place one of the old brake pads between the C clamp and the piston face so that you are putting even pressure across the piston. Doing so will lower your chances of screwing up the piston. Thanks for making these great videos!! They’ve come in really handy with working on my Nissan. Keep up the good work!

Correct. Also it is better to simply open the bleeder screw and push the fluid out through there. Pushing it all the way up through the master cylinder can possibly damage the seals on the MC...especially if the MC is older.

@@stevemccooleq On vehicles with caliper parking brakes that need the pistons screwed in, opening the bleeder is almost a must. Correct -- just open them all & it makes it easier & doesn't have fluid coming over the master reservoir. I bleed all four corners before any brake work, then flush after any work or every 3 years. On older vehicles I remove the master & piston & clean the inside before a final flush. If you have both calipers off put some wood & a clamp on the caliper your not working on so the piston doesn't come out.
Excellent Video. Very helpful and straight forward. Exactly what I needed. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for the Very Informative video. Clear and you make it seem very easy, before this video I hadn't been able to find xterra brake videos, you are awesome!
I’ve commented on many of your videos before, and again, thank you for the crisp and clean, clear images, as well as explanations! You rock

This is a great video. Helped me do exactly the same thing on my 2006 Frontier. One suggestion for you, since you are also working on the emergency brake as well as the rear brakes/rotors, it would be helpful if you can somehow reference your other view on adjusting the e-brake. I completed everything and then needed to pull off the rear tires etc. again to adjust the brake. A note on the other view while everything is off the car would be my only recommendation. Fantastic work.
Love the vids..I have the same year xterra and working on the same stuff that he's fixing..
Good video, very informative! Thanks 🙏🏼

Ry, I want to sincerely thank you for these amazing Xterra videos! They have helped tremendously! There are not too many people who go into as much detail as you do so thank you! I would like to ask if I need to replace the e brake drums when I replace the rear rotors, calipers, and pads or can I leave them alone? Also do you have a video on replacing the calipers with new unloaded calipers? Thank you!!!
I know it's been a long time but I found myself watching this tutorial... Great job!
Don’t know if the comments covered this but please inspect grease and or replace as needed your caliper guide pins/boots. Hung caliper will wipe out your new brakes and rotor quick fast and in a hurry.
Excellent presentation, awsome job

Hi Ry, for what year range of Xterra is this instruction applicable....2nd Gen 2005-2015? Also, for this job is there any difference for the Xterra "Off Road" (4X4) compared to non-4X4?
Ry have you done your rear bearings? I am tackling the nissan xterra 2005 rear wheel bearings on Saturday.
Nice video what happens if you get grease on your new brake pads? And they get installed like that??
Thanks for this. Only thing I did differently was use the existing springs, pins, and expander. They were still in good shape and were better quality than the aftermarket ones I bought.
Great video, but you should specify for what year its gonna be good for or what brake type you're working on in the title, i know that my 2000 xterra has drum brakes in the rear and not disk brakes, which is what i was looking for

Thank you my 2006 Nissan armada with 296k lite came on without check lite indicator I changed battery and I think that was the cause but reset worked thank you so much😊
Can you use some of that lithium grease on the inside of the star adjusting barrel to keep the threads lubed.
This is for a drum rear brake? I havd a 2000 nissan xterra
Hi, I have a Nissan frontier 2004 4x4, it is possible to change to rear disc brake, and if that xterra works for me and what year is that. Thanks for the help.
Hey Ry do you have to adjust the ebrake adjuster in the center console after this is done?
awesome video. realistically how often do you have to replace the brake shoes? if I juat want to replace my rotors and pads is that okay?
@Rythecarguy
7 жыл бұрын
Yea that would be fine. You really only have to change out the shoes when you emergency brake does not work as well as you want it to.
Im doing the rear on my 2010 xterra because i smelt a burning smell and my back rim was hot, so i got rotors and pads and realized my calipers would not press in with a c clamp, so i went to autozone and got 2 new calipers, 1 was under warranty, now im trying to bleed them with the same pump u use and its not a steady easy stream coming out like the fronts.. the fronts bleed easy but the rears will take fluid but not alot , what could be wrong? Or is it normal for the rears to do that ? The calipers are brandnew and my old pads where like new , prob because as soon as i smelt the burning i took it apart, so i dont know if a brake line is messed up but they look fine, i remember u sayi g the rear is separate from front so maybe something is blocking fluid..
Hey do a video on balljoint and control arm upper and lower
Thanks the best video

Hey, so are the shoes in the drum just for the parking brake? So if I need to replace my brakes as in I'm having trouble slowing down, I only need to replace the brake pads in the caliper and maybe I could take a look at the shoes and if they look like shit I could think about replacing them? Good video BTW, very thorough

I got Frontier 2010, 4.0, KingCab SE 4x4 - did anyone ever replaced the rear backing plates?? When it comes to the videoclip, I missed the part about adjuster, after it is in, should I leave it at "minimum" setting, or unscrew it until I feel some resistance?? thank for any answer.
Im confused, does my 2001 xterra have drum brakes or disk brakes in the back? Whats in your video looks like a hybrid of both?
@Rythecarguy

It it both on the second gen. Not sure about first gen
I have been watching your videos for awhile now. Every time we put the Xterra in reverse the brake pedal takes a long time to rise back up, releasing the brake. The pedal slowly moves up, making a noise as if the brakes are still on, then when it's all the way up it reverses just fine. Moving forward the brakes work just fine! The transmission was recently replaced (but I had the same problem before the replacement). I took it to two different mechanics and they told me to take it to the dealership. However I don't want to exorbitant prices at the dealership. Please help...

Is it necessary to replace the disk/drum when doing to pads and shoes or is it only required if the disk are worn or damaged?
@Rythecarguy
4 жыл бұрын
Only when damaged or worn.
are jack stands really necessary? or can I get away without ones and just lifting one side at a time...
@Rythecarguy
7 жыл бұрын
I just put it up that way because I find it easier. If you need to do it one side at a time then a jack is fine as long as you trust it. Just chock your wheels and go to town!
Use the old brake pad to evenly push back the caliper piston when installing the new pads
I have a 2002. Do you think it would be similar to this? Great xterra vids!

@Rythecarguy

That is there so you can adjust the brake shoes. You would line up the hole with the adjuster, slide a small screw driver in, and push the adjuster until the pads are in the right place.

Ok got it, how do you know when to adjust it? You did not show it on your video, I am about to do my brakes soon and I dont want to screw it up 👍

Do you have to adjust the expander to a certain height?
