It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to change the taillight on this car.

God forbid you ever damage your tail lamps on this car. I just finished doing this very thing because the wifey backed up into a pole. Luckily only the tail lamp was broken. It took me 2 hours just to complete the job. While i was back there decided to replace all tail lights to LEDs. Two birds with one stone i guess. The hardest part was the trim surrounding the rear seat folding release, i ended up breaking one clip. Be gentle around this area folks. But i am glad i did it. Thank you wifey sauce for this project!

Was a super-helpful video. Explained exactly what I needed to do to replace the rear tail light, step-by-step. Can't imagine what a shop would have charged me! This video saved me hundreds of dollars - thanks so much for posting.

Very clear instructions, and a big time saver - thank you, 1A Auto!!! Indispensable. This may seem convoluted but it isn't as bad as you'd think at first. I had no trouble with any of the trim pieces on a 2007 RAV4, the whole thing flowed smoothly. Go for it.

Thank you so much. I’m a divorced woman who typically does everything for myself, my girlfriend taught me lots. I would have never figured this out without such great instructions. Saved my pocket a lot doing it myself.

Just did the install. Took me about 3 hrs but the video was excellent. I say buy their products since they’re so helpful in teaching us the repairs and tools needed.

Just completed this job. Basically did it just like A1 did. I believe this could be done in about 1 or 1.5 hours. I am compelled to clean everything I touch. Lead to me cleaning the entire interior so it became a 4 hours job. Thanks for the intructions.

Good lord Toyota, that's alot of stuff you have to take off and not try to break to pieces also...

Good video! I got to replace my left tail light assembly too. Backed into the trash bin. I think I'll use a little soapy water and a rag when I do it.

Woow ... More complicated than what I thought. You needed to take the whole left back wing apart to get to the light assembly.

What happened to the good ol’ days of taking parts out easily?

Good Lord, we have to disassemble the whole back of the car. Taking a pic at each part being disassembled would be wise. I have done a good bit of repairs and replacements myself. I'm frugal and handy. Hmmm all for a tiny bulb. I think when I need one, I'll be coming over to see you !!!!!!

I appreciate the fact that host one slowly and to try to explain what he was doing as he went along however, I think the camera angles could be tweaked a bit and perhaps even the camera operator could back up and give us a broader view. I have a a 2005 RAV4L. Much in the back (various panels, which was too close to actually see what they were/their positions) don't even seem to be what I have. Unfortunately this is not helpful to me.

Tail lights and break light dont working, need to change al piece? Cause cant change only the panel leds.

2012 rav 4 base. followed you to a T except mine was passenger side so no aux power to deal with.

So many un necessary steps in this video. Can be done in half the time or less. You don’t need to remove that entire side panel - just remove half at the rear side and you have more than enough room to pull the light fasteners. What a waste of time ?

Yeah I just personally did this. All I had to remove was the 2 screws and 10mm on the side panel, plastic trim around the rear seat drop down lever, pulled back enough to access the 3 10mm's holding the headlight housing in place, unplugged it and pulled it out. Also had to remove obvious little things like the cargo mats and stuff, but not everything shown here. Took me about 30 minutes to do in total. $45 for housing with bulbs off eBay, compared to the $245 the dealership quoted me and the $160 for labor. What a joke.

Those panel clips break very easy...think I will pay the 400 or 500 if I ever have to fix it. This is not an easy DIY job. Thanks for the video.

Well there are 32 more screws and 1 bolt to do that side, because the car jack bracket is in the, I mean placed there for your convenience. 😆

My Toyota rav 4 2006 driver side tail light stopped working but this doesn't sound too easy for me to just install a new tail light. Too many steps and its hard to follow if you are not technical person.

what about the right tail light lens

took out all those panels just to replace the taillight? i wonder if we need to do all those to replace a bulb?

You can get to the bulbs through the little access doors. It's tight but it's do-able

who designed the toyota light assembly? Are they crazy??????

My god take many things of to remove the tail lights.

Wtf just to take out the tail lights all this work?! Jeeeeeezzzzz that’s crazy. Can 2013 taillights be used on a 2011 rav4?

Well I won't be getting one of these cars. I have a 2012 Ford Escape and replacing both sets of tail lamps takes about 20 minutes if that.

This was a little excessive. I just changed mines in 15 mins. I removed the cargo hook, and two bolts center of the quarter panel, and was able to pull it enough to reach the tail lamp bolts without removing the entire panel.

wow $500 to change her lens or even a light bulb in that fixture you really know how to run the clock out don't you miss the mechanic this is why people hate mechanics why don't you come out with a video showing the cheap version the version where you're not going to get into my pocket for more than a hundred bucks to change a light bulb

Good grief...not something I would attempt by myself. Have to tear half the car down to get to it and have special tools to put the panels back on.

This whole video is a crock of crap ! I watched it , thinking it would help me change the brake light bulb in my elderly neighbors 13' Rav 4. I also googled how to do it. The Google version had me take out two bolts ,then use a flat blade screw driver to pop the entire fixture straight back then out.Replaced the bulb and had it back together quick.The whole process took me less than ten minutes ! Why would someone make a video that makes such a small process so complicated !!!
