I most recently had to do this after a major thunderstorm blew open a side door and slammed it repeatedly so the entire jamb was cracked, both sides and top. But it's unsettling in the rental property business how often you encounter a door that's been kicked in. This is a good step by step for property managers/landlords and homeowners with a project house. Also glad to see a tutorial where the cammer has to deal with the complication of masonry and having to shim it. Too many vids assume you're working in ideal conditions so thanks for showing us something we're likely to actually encounter.
Fantastic job. Extremely detailed. This is the kind of video that encourages others to tackle such projects. Keep up the nice work.
I have no carpenter skills. It's a good video, but I need to see everything done. Actually see everything being done. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video. I'm retired and was thinking of calling a contractor to replace my broken front door jamb. Your step by step instruction is easy to follow. I'm going to install the new one myself. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks, Sam. I wasn't subscribed, but my daughter locked herself out of her house yesterday, and had to break the jamb on the garage door. I was thinking I would need to sister in some sticks of wood, but you've shown me it is (duh! - I wasn't thinking) easier to buy the door jamb molding. Thank you Thank you Thank you! (This door doesn't have brick molding, it's a garage entry, but having installed a few doors as an amateur, I get it.)
very to the point information development, not just another guy talking for 15 minutes about nothing, watch this video if you’re trying to fix that door you kicked in when you and your girl got into it! highly recommended
This video truly helped out. One of the best detailed and straight to the point videos I’ve seen. I am going for it this weekend, I thought I was going to have to replace the entire frame. Thanks man !!!
I really like this pov filming. However, because of how detailed you are, would be great to have a broader perspective after you've explained what you're doing. This is the best video I've seen so far on this subject. Thank you!
I locked myself in the garage with all my tools but really didn’t want to damage the lock cause all the doors are the same, and I’m renting from my grandfather but I suddenly had diarrhea, now I’m on this video

I hope you feel better by now
Thank you for taking the time to record such a detailed video. I have the exact problem and will be attempting this with the help of your video!
AWESOME JOB! My front door jamb is so messed up. I have watched so many youtube videos on this and yours is by far the best that I have seen. In saying that I am still afraid to try and do it myself. I am very handy but I can never match up the holes for the dead bolt and door knob. You did such a professional job! I liked and subscribed to your channel.
Nice video. I watch a lot of repair videos and your editing keeps the tutorial right to the point. Keep up the good work
Very well done. Clear explanations and the close ups are very useful.

Many common hardware stores carry it, including Home Depot. They have 2 types of jamb: a basic flat jamb for interior/bedroom doors, and this "stepped" jamb for exterior doors.
What drill bit did you use to drill out hole for lock?
very nice thank you
How long did this project take and were those #8 screws for the jamb?
What are the tools needed for this project? Can you please list them?
If you like a youtube channel that has videos on how to remove things, fix things, build and install things, and replace things tbat are all auto/mechanic/house related highly recommend checking out the youtube channel called "the fixer" the profile picture looks like a man holding a hammer with broken glass in the background the guy is very kind answers all questions and makes useful videos! I will conclude this comment by saying please go check out his youtube channel and subscribe to it! Love y'all
What about replacing the side of the hinges? Is it the same process?
Dude. Thx
Good info, but i would have like a more panned out visual perspective.
Can you just replace the 20 inch section with a 2x4 then seal with glue and deck screws then re-drill the lock holes?

@@V3ctor003 I done a handful the way you described Ajay. Rental repairs for my parents rentals. If you keep the cuts clean it works just fine.
Great Video, But why didnt you Chisel recesses for the the strike plates? Those plates are designed for flush mounting. Surface Mounting works but its ugly.

Same reason, to not fill the jam with foam. It's works, it gets the job done and looks tidy enough. Might be a rental property.
what is the peice u used to make the lock holes?
What GA nail gun is that
Who else is here because they forgot their keys and had to break into their own house and broke their door jam in the process? lol
Great fucken video.
How do you do the bottom
It would be a lot easier to follow if you didn’t show things so close up
It would have been nice if you showed fitting to the threshold
Doors are such a pain in the
I need to stop the doorjam from being easily pulled out or split by forced entry.
What's the cost of this job? I'm getting some high numbers but I don't know if they are reasonable.

Unfortunately the truth is most companies do charge a few hundred extra due to the labor time. I have had professionals take up to 4 hours to replace the door jamb charging $100 per hour not including material. Some do it faster but this is ideally how long it would take depending on various factors. Some do it in 2 hours so it really depends on contractor... quality of work... etc 🙁
Sick so I’m gonna have to call someone to fix it. I literally own no tools let alone a saw
Camera too close to the repair area, don’t know what is going on
At 8:30 you’re not ever supposed to see the inside of the door jamb.
He don't show shit
why? just cut out and replace raver. 👍🌷
Thanks
