I most recently had to do this after a major thunderstorm blew open a side door and slammed it repeatedly so the entire jamb was cracked, both sides and top. But it's unsettling in the rental property business how often you encounter a door that's been kicked in. This is a good step by step for property managers/landlords and homeowners with a project house. Also glad to see a tutorial where the cammer has to deal with the complication of masonry and having to shim it. Too many vids assume you're working in ideal conditions so thanks for showing us something we're likely to actually encounter.

Thanks for the video. I'm retired and was thinking of calling a contractor to replace my broken front door jamb. Your step by step instruction is easy to follow. I'm going to install the new one myself. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks, Sam. I wasn't subscribed, but my daughter locked herself out of her house yesterday, and had to break the jamb on the garage door. I was thinking I would need to sister in some sticks of wood, but you've shown me it is (duh! - I wasn't thinking) easier to buy the door jamb molding. Thank you Thank you Thank you! (This door doesn't have brick molding, it's a garage entry, but having installed a few doors as an amateur, I get it.)

AWESOME JOB! My front door jamb is so messed up. I have watched so many youtube videos on this and yours is by far the best that I have seen. In saying that I am still afraid to try and do it myself. I am very handy but I can never match up the holes for the dead bolt and door knob. You did such a professional job! I liked and subscribed to your channel.

Many common hardware stores carry it, including Home Depot. They have 2 types of jamb: a basic flat jamb for interior/bedroom doors, and this "stepped" jamb for exterior doors.

Unfortunately the truth is most companies do charge a few hundred extra due to the labor time. I have had professionals take up to 4 hours to replace the door jamb charging $100 per hour not including material. Some do it faster but this is ideally how long it would take depending on various factors. Some do it in 2 hours so it really depends on contractor... quality of work... etc 🙁
