You might want to rethink the direction of the seal. I think the large flat surface goes to the outside, in other words, facing you, not inwards.

Hey David Murphy. Thanks for the video. I was able to understand everything that you did and why. After all that hassle I think I would have mounted a new oil filler plug of some kind, possibly with a magnet, and external tube for easy access. This gives me a starting place on my Craftsman 42" 2000 Pro series. I have the same problem. When it first started to leak I asked Sears about it as it was under warrantee. No surprise it's not covered and they wanted a ridiculous amount per hour to trouble shoot the problem. Sounds like it from some of the comments that they want you to come over and do it for them while they watch. LOL Any other info you can throw my way would be appreciated. Thanks again for the video.

Maybe show how you take it off and put it one. The LT2000 has the seal in the inside of the transaxle not on the outside.

I wish you would have shown how you took the seal out.

"Just not available." I have to replace the rear axle oil seal on my Craftsman GTS 5000 with manual shift and a 54 in. mower deck. I cannot find a set anywhere. It's listed as part number 425233. I believe that this would be an item readily available, but it's not. Do I have to junk my mower because of an un-available $15.00 part? Would have been nice if I could have heard the last number of the part. The written number on the bag was totally unreadable. Your video would have been better if you had added a "MORE" to it.

Seals are standardised parts. They are specified by dimensions, ID, OD & thickness. They can be purchased on line or anywhere what sells bearings.

I am at the point of taking a seal out and put oil in a friends Husqvarna. It has the same brand transmission. His is a YTH24V54. I have heard three types of oil to put in by three different people. You say 20w50 engine oil, Sears said 80w90, and trans. maker said Hydrostatic oil. So as you can imagine, I am confused which one I should use. But trans. maker should know for sure. What is your opinion? Thanks for sharing this video, going to help when I have to put more oil in it.

no/lies from me - it’s a hydrostatic transmission, he didn’t say he was replacing hydraulic fluid. Lol.
