How to replace Rear Brakes with Electronic Parking Brake for Toyota
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
A Toyota master diagnostic technician shows you how to replace rear brakes with electronic parking brake on Toyota and Lexus without a scan tool and without using the incorrect method of wires.
In this highly requested video by my viewers I cover the procedure to correctly retract the motor for the electronic parking brake for Toyota and Lexus equipped with this system.
This is an official procedure from the repair manual from Toyota. The car is designed this way with this procedure. I see many videos on the internet instructing to use a small battery to activate the motor, Not only is that not the correct procedure but it could cause serious damage to the expensive electronic parking brake actuator.

Nice Video. Thanks so much for the instruction. Here's the procedure as mentioned in the tutorial 1. Turn the key on (Not to start the engine) 2. Press to disengage the Parking Brake 3. Turn the key off 4. Turn the key on again (Not to start the engine) 5. Foot on the brake 6. Pull 3 times and push 3 times the Parking Brake 7. Press 1 more time and hold the Parking Brake 'til the sound of motors stop (Parking Brake is now flashing and on Dash the Park sign is also flashing) --------------------------------------------- At this point, you're ready to service the brakes --------------------------------------------- Once service is done~ 1. Turn the key on (Not to start the engine) 2. Pull the Parking Brake up and Hold (You will hear the motors whine) 3. Once motors stop, you can release the Parking Brake 4. Pull the Parking Brake up 1 more time and you're done.

As an auto technician and one who has experience in Toyota manufacturing facilities, I thank you for your informative videos. Cars aren't like they used to be. But with proper procedure and direction. Anyone can do many services by themselves just like the old days. You channel is very good . Thank you for your hard work

Very good information. Do you have the procedure for Subaru?
I really can't thank you enough for this video. You've saved me quite a lot of hassle. I'm an amateur mechanic, but I've done brakes quite a few times. Doing my wife's 2019 RAV now and all of the other videos suggest connecting a battery to the motor. You explain it so well too. Oftentimes tutorial videos are missing crucial bits of minor detail. You have a gift my friend - keep up the good work. Thanks again 🙏

I watched those as well, and another one that said to take a T40 wrench and manually back the screw out. I am sure that will screw up the calibration. Thank goodness I came across this one.
This guy is the Man!! Break job completed! Saved me hundreds . Ty
Thank you again for the information! I will say something that is important. If you live in a place where the weather is cold, turn off automatic parking break. Sometimes it may froze and you dont wanna start your car and the rear wheels are locked with a frozen rear breaks. Same is with the auto folding mirrors. Use these functions on positive weather temperatures :)
Yesss it’s AMD the best HONEST mechanic❤️🙏🏽
Found this video because somebody posted a link to it in another video that was not correct. Excellent video explaining the correct way to do this task! Hope that anyone looking for this info finds this video and not some of the other incorrect videos.
thank you so much, i replaced rear brakes pads on 2018 Lexus RX350 today. procedure did work accept while holding down the parking button , park symbol on dash never flashed really appreciate for all your hard work thanks again
This procedure worked perfectly for me. Thanks!
Another informative and interesting video! Appreciate your hard work 👍🏼
Great advice as usual, thanks very much.
It works great on my 2020 Corolla LE. Maintenance Toyotas is affordable and pretty easy if you follow the right way. Thank you The Car Care Nut! For teaching us the right way. I just removed the 4 calipers and pads to check brakes. For my surprise I have 6mm on the original 4 pair of pads after 92k miles. Awesome quality! I just clean the breaks greased the contact parts and pins and I am ready to go! ❤Toyota❤
Must release foot brake when pushing the park switch down for the last time

From listening to a bunch of Utubes, if you have a key, keep brake pedal pushed when pushing the switch down the last time. If you have push button start, release the brake pedal when you get to the final "switch down" step.
Ahmed thanks for the video. The procedure for brake service mode is very interesting but simple. I never know this is how it’s done. My Camry SE doesn’t have this (to my knowledge) but my Buddies RAV4 does. Will definitely share the video and the knowledge.
Excellent information. Thank you!
Wow great video! I don't have a toyota or a car that has electronic parking brakes. But i love learning about auto mechanics. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome!! Very helpful! Worked like a charm! Thank you very much!! God bless! 🙂🍺👍
Actually it disengaged on my 2nd try and it engaged on the 1st try. Swell video!
my first comment here. i really like your videos.. i own 5th gen rav 4, and my parents are getting one as well. I been doing all the maintenance on my car and my parents cars for last 15 years (I actually have my own video working on their 2013 Honda CR-V).. So now i need to learn about 5th gen Rav4. Just finished transfer case and rear diff fluid change for myself . Had to get special low profile hex socket and flex ratchet, but once i had required tools, it was easy as cake. Saved tons of money, considering Toyota wanted $75 per litter for gear oil. You definitely know your stuff.
After watching so many of this guys Videos I feel like I could walk into any Toyota dealer and be their top mechanic

You definitely would be in alot of Toyota dealerships. Most of their mechanics are complete morons. Just did brakes on my Rav4 Prime at 90,000 miles. Up till then, Toyota dealership had serviced it, and at the last service, they recommended brakes all around because they noted fronts were almost metal to metal and rears had less than 2mm of pad left. I chose to do brakes myself because I am a former mechanic. When I did the fronts, the outer pad was almost metal to metal as they said, but the inner pad had 70% pad left, because the slide pins had frozen probably 40,000 miles ago, and Toyotas mechanics failed to notice this during multiple (8) services. Also, the rears had at least 50% pad left and didn't need replaced. I replaced them anyway because I went with carbon ceramic brakes and wanted the fronts to match rears as far as stopping power.
Thank you again always the best.
Great video. Thank you for the instructions.
Awesome video, thank you!
This video is perfect. I have a 2020 Corolla and I am servicing my rear brakes today. Thank you for the heads up about how finicky the procedure might be, it took me a few attempts but it just worked!! So excited! Cheers to saving money and working on your own car!

Every Toyota/Lexus/Subaru sold should have your contact info in the Service Manual...j/k. Thanks for these awesome how-to's. Do these electronic parking brake modules have good longevity in snow country?
@TheCarCareNut
3 жыл бұрын
Hi brother! That would be busy season if they do that 😀 So far they’ve been ok honestly. They’re made out of plastic but what I anticipate could be an issue is when the pads start seizing in the holder then the motor pushes them and jams them even more then we might have some issues
good job thank you very much
Excellent video ! It’s just so annoying as a Toyota owner of many when ‘features’ like this are added. It’s a solution looking for a problem. Just give me the old brake - it works fine.
Awesome! Would be great to have a video on how to bleed and do a brake fluid replacement

@@getgr Right, that’s what I’ve heard.. I had a Kia 2011 that I’ve been doing with a bleeder and pressing the brake pedal.. I know those modern Toyota’s have to use scanner.. that’s why I think would be a great idea a tutorial.

Thanks for yet another very instructive and valuable video. You are the go-to source for Toyota / Lexus owners and we're very fortunate! I own a 2017 LX570 which has a push button starter, no key. I had new brakes installed by my mechanic's garage, but they weren't able to get the parking brake working properly after the brake service. I tried to follow your instructions from this video, but never got the exact sounds that you described. Yet, afterwards the parking brake works fine and somehow I goofed up and it worked! Can you please do a short video or reply to cover this subject for vehicles with push button starting? Many thanks.
