I love this video because you identify what all the parts are on the intake, how to remove them including all the various connectors, and so forth. That is helpful for a whole host of smaller repairs as well as just for general knowledge of what everything is, and how to disconnect anything that may be in the way of some other repair. It's also in focus, stable and well lit, with good narration....really nice job all around. Thanks for doing this video.

Just wanted to say thank you very much for this great content. I was able to save literally thousands of dollars getting to the VLOM and fixing a lifter issue. I know that’s more than this video addresses, but it gave me the confidence and step by step info to tackle the most confusing and intimidating part of the project (at least for me). You guys are fantastic, and I’m very grateful for it. Again, thank you so much.

Video helped me identify why my truck was running lean after I took it in to have the oil sending unit replaced. Guy who did the repair removed the whole intake to get to the unit and then messed the gasket up. Honest mistake but good to know why I got "free" maintenance when I brought it back in.

Very nice video - top quality. Some suggestions - I would remove that back plastic shield on the intake manifold and leave it off - it makes removing and replacing the oil pressure sensor and cam positioning sensor in the future a lot easier. I don't think the plastic shield really serves much of a purpose. There are some skilled mechanics that can change out both of these sensors without removing the intake manifold - but it is a tight, frustrating and painful job. If you remove the intake manifold for the gaskets, you might as well replace both sensors and the filter screen for the oil pressure sensor while you are in there. (beware and ask the mechanic upfront - will change both sensors and charge you the labor as if they removed the intake manifold, bastards) Get the newer design valve cover for the PCV (drivers) side and replace it and that will fix the oil consumption issue this engine is notorious for, the OE valve cover is a really bad design and caused all kind of issues - from oil consumption to fouled spark plugs and stuck lifters. Then get a Range OBD plug in that deactivates the stupid AFM garbage and your engine will always stay in V8 instead of flipping back an forth between 4 and 8 cylinders to save a lousy 1MPG. Its a V8 - keep it that way. 2007 Suburban 5.3L LTZ - 288k miles and going strong - was conned into replacing the engine at 125K miles because it was eating a quart of oil every thousand miles (which the idiotic Chevy dealership said was "normal" consumption). Live and learn. The new designed valve cover and Range AFM bypass would have done the trick and saved me thousands of dollars. I bought a Crate engine and had a skilled non dealer mechanic do the labor. Besides normal wear and tear I love my 2007 Suburban and plan on driving it until it dies or rusts out. The new year model is now $85k! A few other changes I made to it over the years as needed. K&N air filter and tube to get rid of that stupid OE snorkel set up. Got rid of the air struts and went coil over, better ride and no stupid electronic crap. Better after market brakes (rotors and pads). Cleaned and plasti-dipped the clear coated wheels after they started to get nasty (I live in snow country) CAT back Magna Flow exhaust Last note, if you have issues filling your gas tank, pump keeps shutting off before it is full, you have a clogged evap line an evap canister, The best fix is to disconnect the line at the canister and leave it off. It will occasionally throw a check engine light for this DIY mod, but I just clear the codes with a cheap OBDII scanner. Replacing the line and the canister is a nasty job, you need to drop the fuel tank so it will cost you high $$$.

I see your Torn nitrile gloves. I like to use gorilla grip gloves they are knit with nitrile coating. I did a power steering pump with fluid all over the gloves. I could still turn the bolts and get a grip on the bolts with my fingers covered with power steering fluid which is slicker than snot. That’s impossible with Bearfingers. Really a nice pace pace as you describe everything in the video. I have a 2003 Cadillac Deville. The doorman gaskets pop right off the bottom of the plastic Plenum. Everything else is very similar to this video with the fuel rails fuel injectors and bolts. What’s different is the rubber boot that connects the plastic Plenum to the throttlebody with a steel bracket Midway. So the throttlebody is two pieces. The Plenum side has two vacuum fittings and heater hose a fuel injector called throttle body injection and I assume an air conditioner relay. The throttle plate side to the right has an IAC valve on top and a throttle position sensor on the bottom front. It has two alignment pins on the bottom and the bolts go through those and one at the top of the triangle. Very easy to screw it up and wind up with a gap. The gap shows up a week or two later as the rubber seats on the throttlebody aluminum housing. I wound up with the highest idol ever. No we’re not talking American Idol. I turn the car on n get immediately to 4000 RPMs. after 30 seconds engine shuts off, car won’t run. I’m thinking since I reused the old gaskets there’s a problem. I took two of them off. they may have fallen off when I tried to put the plenum back on. I could not make the doorman gaskets work. With the Plenum turned up side down I put the gaskets on and they popped right off. There was no way I was going to get that Plenum back on the aluminum intake manifold with those Dorman gaskets popping off. So I reused the old gaskets, got everything back together. it ran fine for a few days then the check engine light started coming on and then I had sudden unintended acceleration. The engine just stayed at The highest RPM. I had to drive with the brakes smashed down. 5 miles n the ceramic brakes were billowing clouds of smoke. I had 2 check engine light codes for the throttle position sensor out of range and the mass airflow sensor. I had the car towed to a trusted mechanic who I don’t think ever looked at it. He sat in his office and decided it needed a new throttle body. His PC shows only the right side. he’s not even aware of the left side of the throttlebody. He’s got other people doing the work now. he doesn’t touch a wrench. I gotta get a second opinion before the operation. He insists that a vacuum leak will only raise the idle rpm from 700 to 1500 maybe 2000. Not 4000.

When you have your intake off... in my opinion, its a good idea to take off and throw away the rear noise shield plastic plate which hides the oil sensor. Doing this will allow you to easily replace the oil pressure sensor when (not if) it fails. Changing the oil pressure sensor is a snap without this shield in place cause you can leave the intake installed as is or not have to reach blindly behind the plate to get at the sensor which some have done. Also, when the intake is off, check the torque on the valley pan bolts. GM's automated torque machine, when they assembled some engines, was not always working properly so they could only be finger tight in places. check specs for torque value.

Caution: The PCV hose in Suburbans and Silverados follows a specific design. If you're dealing with an Avalanche, take note! The pipe should be disconnected by pulling it out from the PCV Valve; avoid attempting to twist the PCV breather out. I made the mistake of assuming it was stuck and now find myself in a bit of a pickle. Additionally, be aware that the fuel injectors in Avalanches differ slightly. Remove a double-sided blue clip on both sides of the wiring, then slide up a grey tab. Once the grey tab is lifted, press on it to detach. Other than that, everything else seems to match up one-to-one so far. After accidentally breaking the PCV Valve, I couldn't lift the manifold out. It got stuck, and I wasn't sure why. I decided to remove the alternator, and it was a breeze to move out. While it's totally optional, since everything was disconnected, I wanted to make my life a tad bit easier. Kudos to these guys for their awesome videos! I truly appreciate their help!
