Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on KZread and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!

Thank you for making this video. My mower runs so much better and oddly, much quieter than before. I really think it had an ignition problem straight from the showroom floor. I found a set of coils for like $45 and I made my own wiring harness. I don't know why there is such a large price difference from buying the updated coils vs the $108 kit. Great video. 5 stars. 👍👍

I've done this twice on a 72' Toro z500. I ended up removing the engine to do all the work. It's a horizontal shaft, only 4 bolts and belt and a few connections to remove it. That mower recently got a new engine, so I'm sure I'll be doing it again in a few years.

Dony, had an engine shop like yours for years. Just a suggestion when replacing coils. Remove old like you did, then install new ones with flywheel magnets out of the way but then just snug up new coils, then rotate the magnet to one coil, place business card in place and then loosen coil hold down bolts. Magnets will pull coil into place, tighten hold down bolts and you are off and running without having to fight the magnetic pull on the new loose coil. Just a suggestion.

Smashing conversion, it's just like B&S push mowers now. Just omit the power wire from the coil packs basically. Any problem with the timing or is it just an engine that does not care much?

Even if it did care much, there is only a few thousandths play on the coil mounting bolts left to right. Engineered to the highest good enough standards.

paul billings Ha ha "Engineered to the highest good enough standards." :-D That's a new one to me, nice :-D Sounds much like simple twostroke moped engines, who cares how close the plug and points gaps are, the stator plate is bolted down so it should work. It has to be rotated!! oooow :-D

Can to much gap cause backfire? I have a Honda lawnmower I’ve checked valve timing , flywheel key , no sign of damage or severe ware to cam or rockers. Auto decompress seems good but still backfire

Companies are constantly coming out with "latest and greatest" designs like those powered coils. Then their designs fail...then the companies revert back to the same old systems that have worked very well for many, many years. (And of course they charge the end user for the retrofit parts). Frustrating...
